Introducing: The new Green Credor Locomotive GCCR997 Joins the Permanent Collection
Last year, to celebrate its 50th anniversary, Credor – the high-end, most classical brand owned by the Seiko Corporation – unveiled a very special watch based on the Locomotive concept and being a faithful recreation of Gerald Genta‘s original 1978 sketch. While Genta is best known for designing the iconic Royal Oak, Nautilus, and Ingenieur, his creative vision extended far beyond Europe. Frequent visits to Japan led to a friendship with Seiko’s Reijiro Hattori, who invited him to design a distinctive timepiece for Credor, part of Seiko’s portfolio. The result was the Locomotive, first introduced to the public in 1979.The 2024 Credor Locomotive limited-edition reissue got plenty of attention upon its release, though much of the discussion centred on its aesthetics rather than the exceptional detailing and finishing it offers. While we have yet to experience the new Credor Locomotive GCCR997 in person, everything we know suggests it is an impeccably crafted
Buying Guide: Five Salmon Watches To Satisfy Your Horological Appetite
“Guess what? I got a fever… and the only prescription is more Salmon Dials!” It could be our horological equivalent of SNL’s famous “More Cowbell!” sketch with Christopher Walken. If you don’t know what that is, I strongly urge you to Google it and then come back here to continue reading. Regardless, it’s no secret the MONOCHROME Editorial Team has a strong love for dials in copper, pink-gold, salmon or whatever tone you want to call it. Heck, even our first Montre de Souscription had a salmon-coloured dial! So you can understand, we get a little bit more excited when a new salmon-toned watch comes along, as opposed to classical black, silver or blue. Case in point: the Chopard L.U.C. Lunar One that kicks off this tasty Buying Guide. Whip out your soy sauce and chopsticks, as we have some finely sliced horological salmon sashimi lined up to whet your appetite!Chopard L.U.C. Mido Commander Big Date 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Review
Back in 2018, Mido released the Commander Big Date to celebrate 100 years of watchmaking, an impressive feat for any Swiss brand given challenging events like World War II and the quartz crisis that ravaged the industry. The following year, a special edition debuted to mark the 60th anniversary of one of the brand's most prominent lines, the Commander. The Commander Big Date 60th Anniversary Limited Edition adds some red accents and dial changes for a new personality, and it just might be my favourite piece in Mido's entire portfolio.?BackgroundThe Commander debuted in 1959 and was chosen over the popular Ocean Star and Multifort lines to celebrate the brand's centennial. There are several Commander variants in Mido's collection, such as the vintage-inspired Commander Shade that harkens back to the 1970s and Commander Gradient Calibre 80 with a skeletonized aesthetic under a smoked dial. The Big Date models are the standouts with, according to the company, the largest big date aperture
Delma Blue Shark III Azores - Dive Watch Hands-On (Specs & Price)
Delma is a relatively discreet brand, not necessarily known by a wider audience, but that still impresses us with its combination of high-quality watches and fair prices. Something that we don’t see that often these days… The brand has long been involved in the field of dive watches, starting in 1969 with the so-called Periscope, followed in 1975 by the?Shell Star, its first pro-diver. But it’s mainly with the Blue Shark collection that the brand has gained interest in this field, with one of the toughest watches on the market, despite an accessible price. Today, we’ll take a closer look at the latest iteration of this watch, the Delma Blue Shark III Azores edition.?As you’ve probably guessed thanks to its name, the Delma Blue Shark III represents the third evolution of a watch that was launched in 2011, as the brand’s most robust and most capable dive watch ever created. While the Shell Star was paying tribute to past watches of Delma, the Blue Shar
Rado Captain Cook Over-Pole Limited 37mm - Hands-On Review, Price
The Captain Cook is certainly one of Rado's most iconic collections – if not its most emblematic current collection. Named after the British explorer, this adventure-ready watch was originally presented in 1962. Since it was relaunched in 2017, the Captain Cook has become one of the pillars of the brand's collections. Among the 2022 novelties, a limited-edition model now joins the line-up with a re-interpretation of another Rado model from the 1950s and 1960s, the Over-Pole. This evocative Over-Pole name was used for several Rado models, in particular, the worldtimer that is being re-interpreted by the brand today, with the new Rado Captain Cook Over-Pole Limited Edition. An example of vintage Rado Over-PoleFor this re-issue of a vintage Over-Pole Worldtimer watch, Rado adopted the name Captain Cook Over-Pole. The new watch is a rather loyal re-interpretation of the original model's spirit, preserving the vintage feel while integrating modern technologies and characteristic Captai
