2020 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore "Bucherer BLUE"
When talking about the Royal Oak, blue dials are a natural fit. After all, the first Royal Oak featured a blue Tapisserie dial in 1972 and the colour has become somewhat of an Audemars Piguet trademark. The Royal Oak Offshore debuted in 1993 and has been a successful, highly masculine sequel to the original series. Although many sported blue dials in the past, the Bucherer BLUE Royal Oak Offshore models have features unique to the collaboration. They're also the first special editions of the 42mm variant since its 2014 launch. Both Audemars Piguet and Bucherer have rich histories going back over a century and these latest models continue a successful partnership since 2016.?Founded in 1888 by entrepreneur Carl-Friedrich Bucherer in Lucerne, Switzerland, Bucherer went from a single watch and jewellery store to the largest retailer of its kind in Europe with 36 locations. A wide selection of the most prestigious watch brands is offered, including one of the most extensive ranges of mod
Patek Philippe Annual Calendar 4947A Steel (Specs & Price)
By creating the Annual Calendar in 1996, Patek Philippe has had great success with this elegant complication. Previously only available in precious metals, i.e. gold alloys (yellow, rose or white) or platinum, it now becomes available in a more accessible and versatile material; stainless steel. This break from tradition for the Annual Calendar complication does not mean any corner has been cut. And as usual, stainless steel remains a rare material at Patek… Here's a look at the Patek Philippe Annual Calendar 4947A.The patented Annual Calendar by Patek Philippe was previously only available in gold or platinum, but now comes in stainless steel Calatrava-style case. The 38mm wide and 11mm high case will fit almost any wrists (call it unisex if you prefer) and is fully polished, bezel included. Combined with the 5-link steel bracelet, it gives off a more modernistic vibe despite the classic elegance of the dial. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Introducing the Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi "Year of the Monkey" - Monochrome Watches
Every year, certain brands dedicate some of their watches to special editions, celebrating the Chinese Zodiac signs.?The next Chinese year which begins on February 8th 2016 is to be ascribed to the Monkey (this year was the Sheep) and soon we'll see some watches adorned in every which ways possible with this Zodiac sign on their dials. First to pull the trigger is Chopard, that introduced to us a watch mixing this theme with a superb dial, made by a Japanese?master lacquer artist. Here is the?Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi “Year of the Monkey”.The meaning of the Monkey…?For more than 1,000 years, the monkey of the Chinese zodiac calendar has conveyed positive symbolism. People born in the Year of the Monkey are considered smart, curious and drawn to knowledge. They are cultivated, inventive as well as creative. It is an earth' sign associated with good sense. Stubborn yet charming, the monkey loves to perform for an audience and is endowed with great self-esteem. The monkey
Spotted - Robert Downey JR with a URWERK UR-110 in Spider-Man Homecoming
In the world of watches, it’s become de rigeur?to have watches “placed” in movies (and?sometimes, it’s a bit more than just that). It’s a practice known as?“product placement” and, in certain measures, it seems to help selling watches (do you feel the irony here…?) However, the story here is much cooler than the usual “watch in a movie” commercial tie-up, and has been dictated by passion, involving?with one of the coolest watches around. So, what could well be the watch worn by?Iron Man / Tony Stark a.k.a Robert Downey Jr in upcoming movie?Spider-Man Homecoming? And why this choice?Recently, in a post on his own Instagram account,?Robert Downey JR showed himself wearing no less than a URWERK UR-110 Torpedo in Rose Gold, while attending the world-premiere of Spider-Man Homecoming. Even cooler, he posted another image with Yacine Sar, the independent watchmaker’s Head of Communication. So, what to think of that…? The
Opinion - The 35mm PRX that Tissot refuses to give us
Tissot started out with a 40mm size PRX, and it was good. Then came more colour variants, and they were good. After that came luxurious fluted gold bezels, and they were pricey but still good. This was followed by a PRX Chronograph, which was very good! But then… nothing? Ever since Tissot launched the incredible platform that is the PRX, there has been a public outcry to introduce a smaller, more compact mechanical version, next to the smaller quartz-powered model. And it’s finally here! Albeit not exactly how any of us might have expected it to be, since it comes with a gold bezel and diamond-studded dial. So what gives Tissot? Why won’t you give us what we all want… A classic-looking PRX Automatic 35mm with a waffle-like dial. The Tissot PRX is a smash-hit for sure, as it combines that cool 1970s retro vibe with all the key elements of a really good luxury sports watch with integrated design. And it does so at an impossible-to-ignore price point, and with a pr
