Introducing The IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 Salmon Dial
If you’re a recurring reader of MONOCHROME, you should know by now that we have a soft spot for salmon-coloured dials. So much so that it was the main theme of our very first Montre de Souscription. Salmon is original, warm, and luxurious, and despite the outpouring of love from the watch-collecting community, these dials remain quite rare… An exclusive treat for connoisseurs. Now, it’s time for the most classic of all IWC Portugieser models to receive such as dial with the introduction of the new Portugieser Automatic 40 Salmon. First exclusive to the UAE, but no worries, it’ll soon be available worldwide.?Let’s make this story short… Because all you need to know here is that there’s a salmon dial on the existing Portugieser Automatic 40, combined with a stainless steel case. That’s it. But sometimes, small updates can create beautiful watches. And, sorry to sound enthusiastic (I love salmon dials, I can’t help it), but seeing a sa

The Lederer Central Impulse Chronometer (Specs & Price)
The Lederer Central Impulse Chronometer is one of the most interesting technical concepts presented recently. Inspired by the George Daniels' Independent Double Wheel Escapement, revered watchmaker Bernhard Lederer developed a high-performance double-wheel escapement driven by two independent gear trains, each with its own barrel and constant force remontoir d'egalite. Following the presentation of first prototypes about a year ago, the Lederer Central Impulse Chronometer now comes in its final version. If virtually nothing has changed from a technical perspective, its new dial bringing an elegant new look and an interesting perspective on the movement and its concept.? Technical ReminderThe basic operating principle of a mechanical movement is the following. Energy is stored by the mainspring inside the barrel. The energy is released via the gear train that drives the hands. The speed at which the gears rotate is controlled by the regulator that comprises the es

TAG Heuer and the Porsche Club of America launch the Monaco 55, a very limited collector's edition.Last month i wrote about my first ‘love’ in watches, my Heuer Autavia. However?the first mechanical watch i ever seriously took a looked at, was a TAG Heuer Monaco, which is still one of my favorites. When i heard TAG Heuer released a (very) limited edition Monaco to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Porsche Club of America (PCA) i was surprised, because TAG Heuer does not makes a habit of such limited editions. The Monaco 55 shows some design elements we know from Monaco?Vintage Limited Edition, TAG Heuer released in tribute to the Porsche-Gulf 917k race car in the movie Le Mans. Vintage beauty - Vacheron Constantin American 1921 - Monochrome Watches
When Vacheron Constantin launched the Historique American 1921, information about it’s ancestor was made available as well. With all the information to be found, the original watches are rare, very, very rare! So imagine how surprised I was to get an email from an owner who’s inherited a vintage American 1921 and is looking to sell it. This specific ‘American 1921’ was the first Vacheron to bear this name and was limited to 10 pieces. It was also the first with it’s crown at the 2 o’clock position, or as collectors call it a ‘crown right’ model. The last one of these ‘right crown’ models sold for 61,000 CHF at the Antiquorum ‘Quarter Millenium of Vacheron Constantin‘ auction in 2005.
