Introducing: The Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 Auto Chrono Limited Edition, now in Blue
Hamilton's US chapter is marked by its legendary field watches for the US Army, interpreted in the popular Khaki line, and its impressive amount of Hollywood screen debuts. On the horological front, perhaps the most exciting moment in Hamilton's history took place in Switzerland, where it participated in the race to develop the world’s first automatic chronograph movement – known as the Calibre 11 or Chronomatic. Today, Hamilton returns to the fore with a vibrant and colourful interpretation of its maxi-sized Chrono-Matic 50, based on the more complex 1970s Chrono-Matic GMT Count-Down.In 1966, Hamilton acquired the Swiss manufacture Buren and closed its American operations shortly after. The Buren years saw Hamilton's involvement in Project 99, a code name for the development of an automatic chronograph movement uniting Hamilton-Buren, Heuer, Breitling and movement specialist Dubious-Depraz. Although Zenith crossed the finish line in January 1969 with its El Primero calibre
In-Depth: The History of the ETA 2824, The Mundane Calibre that shaped the industry
The ETA 2824 movement was a groundbreaking invention that left a lasting impact on the watchmaking industry. Introduced in the 1970s, the ETA 2824 quickly set the standard with its efficient mass production and reliable performance. It retained its popularity for over fifty years until the circumstances and demand for innovation led to the creation of the Powermatic 80, a movement designed to surpass the 2824-2 and uphold ETA’s legacy of excellence in the ever-evolving industrial process. Below is a summary of ETA 2824’s life, and it continues our series on mass-produced workhorse calibres that we started with the Valjoux 7750.Born to live strongIn the stories about the birth and origins of one of the most common watch calibres, the ETA 2824, which preceded the 2824-1 and 2824-2, I’ve encountered opinions mentioning Eterna’s 1955 calibre 1247 as a distant relative; some mentioned the Eterna-Matic, introduced in 1948, as a predecessor. Compared with the ETA/Valjo

Slim, sophisticated and with just the right hint of complexity, the new Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin is a collector's dream. Recently unveiled at Baselworld 2019, it's the first calibre equipped with a flying tourbillon from the Manufacture. Cased up in 100% ethically sourced Fairmined gold, it cuts a striking figure on the wrist. We managed to get our hands on one and were impressed by its perfect proportions and high-level finishing, the latter of which earned this model the Geneva Seal. Read on for a closer look at this handsome timepiece. When it comes to finding a really nice dress watch, often the challenge is the dimensions. There is no shortage of attractive dials but sometimes case size and finishing leave a little (or a lot) to be desired. Thankfully that is most certainly not the case with the new Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin. In fact, I would almost go as far to say that its proportions are close to perfect.
