Womens Watch Wednesday - A. Lange & Sohne Little Lange 1 Moon Phase Hands-On (Specs & Price)
It wouldn’t be fair of me to write this review without stating upfront that this brand is one of my all-time favourites for a host of reasons that run the gamut from history to craftsmanship and more. Still, I refused to let that cloud my judgment as I was wearing the Little Lange 1 Moon Phase watch, an elegant and slightly different conception of Haute-Horlogerie for Ladies. Background Ad - Scroll to continue with article A. Lange & Sohne is undeniably one of the premier German watch brands on the market today. With roots dating back to 1846, the brand's incredible watchmaking ended abruptly during World War II with the expropriation of the company by the government. It was not until after the collapse of the Berlin Wall in November 1989, that Walter A. Lange, the great-grandson of Ferdinand Adolf Lange, seized the opportunity to revive the German watc
Introducing: Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time 7700V, the luxury worldtimer sports watch - Specs and Price - Monochrome Watches
This year, at the SIHH 2016, Vacheron Constantin came with?a brand new Overseas collection, and they introduced no less than 5 models: the?automatic?3-hand 4500V, the?Chronograph 5500V, the?Ultra-Slim 2000V, the?Ultra-Slim Perpetual Calendar and a ladies’ version (that we didn’t cover.) That’s already a complete collection, you could say. Especially for a newly introduced collection. However Vacheron Constantin decided to launch?some more Overseas models, and what could make more sense than the sporty chic Overseas with the most befitting complication for this type of watch, a worldtimer. Here’s the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time 7700V. Oh and it comes with the Geneva Hallmark quality seal, and is available in three different colours.I guess we could say that 2016 is a proper Overseas year for Vacheron Constantin. After a few modest years, in terms of novelties, the brand already made a strong impression with last year’s Harmony collection tha
Calibre 11 - History of an Iconic Movement (And Its Evolution) - In-Depth
1969 was a revolutionary year for watchmaking with the advent of the automatic chronograph with three distinct projects presented almost simultaneously. Fifty years down the line, Zenith has been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the El Primero with great fanfare, Seiko commemorates 50 years of automatic chronographs, and TAG Heuer pays tribute to its 50-year icon, the Monaco. It is now time for Dubois-Depraz to pay tribute to a movement that powered some of the most iconic sports chronographs: the Calibre 11 or Chronomatic.?The first wrist chronographs appeared in the early 20th century but these were powered with hand-wound movements for years. In the 1960s, watchmakers embarked on a genuine race to develop the first self-winding chronograph. Three parties started to develop their own projects, each with its own merits and its own technical vision. Zenith with the code-named 3019 PHC calibre, better known as the El Primero - The development of t
Longines Avigation Type A-7 1935 Review (Specs & Price)
It's quite common for brands to reissue watches from a bygone era, especially military and dive watches. The 2019 Rado Captain Cook Limited Edition, Seiko’s Prospex Diver 300m Hi-Beat SLA025 and Longines' own Avigation BigEye are recent examples (and let's not overlook the brand’s Legend Diver). The company's Heritage collection pays homage to many more vintage pieces and the Avigation Type A-7 1935 is a quirky one with design elements to help pilots read the time and operate the chronograph quicker. Modelled after a 1930s Type A-7 for the U.S. Army Air Corps, it appears as if the crown were fitted at 12 o'clock with the case then rotated 40 degrees to move it away from the lugs (it would clearly obstruct the strap). Although the dial could simply be straightened within the case, there was a purpose for this unconventional aesthetic as it provided a direct view when a pilot's arm was outstretched to the controls (and they often wore it on the underside of the wrist). And wh
