A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin Black Gold Flux - Specs & Price
Named after the state of Saxony, the cradle of German precision watchmaking, the Saxonia was one of the four watches that heralded the rebirth of A. Lange & Sohne in 1994. Elegance and purity are bywords of this family that includes the ultra-slim Saxonia Thin, the thinnest A. Lange & Sohne watch in the collection. With Christmas just around the corner, A. Lange & Sohne revisits its classic thin time-only dress watch in a 40mm white gold case with a special black shimmering dial that sparkles with a captivating copper sheen. Meet the new Saxonia Thin Black Gold Flux.Saxonia ThinSince its debut in 2011, the Saxonia Thin has appeared in case sizes of 37mm, 39mm and 40mm. This model comes in the largest 40mm case size, but shares the same lean 6.2mm height as the 39mm model. Perhaps a wee bit on the large side for the strictest of watch purists, the ultra-slim case height and sophisticated presence of the Saxonia Thin earmark this watch as a classic dress watch. Two years ago,
Hands-On AP Royal Oak Jumbo 16202 Tuscan Dial White Gold
Last week, Audemars Piguet released an array of new watches, ranging from steel Code 11.59 to an astonishing Grande Complication watch – to be precise, the most complicated wristwatch ever created by the brand – as part of its first semester 2023 collection. In the middle of that, as a slightly more discreet release, was a model that clearly raises the cool factor to a higher level. Royal Oak Jumbo? Check! White metal with blue dial? Check! White gold and low availability? Unfortunately, check! But more importantly, there’s the dial. Because the new Royal Oak Jumbo 16202BC brings back one of the rarest but also most desirable dial styles used by AP in the past, the so-called Tuscan dial. And here’s an early hands-on session with this Jumbo Grained Blue dial.?The return of the rare Tuscan dialAs with many of the nicknames given to Audemars Piguet’s rare and collectable watches (well, they became collectables recently…), the so-called Tuscan dial is as
Pre SIHH 2015: Cartier comes with the Rotonde de Cartier Annual Calendar, now in 40mm (specs and price) - Monochrome-Watches
Downsizing is a trend that is clearly growing in the industry since the previous?editions of the SIHH and Baselworld. After years of watches sized over 42mm and more, large brands are coming back to more reasonable cases’ dimensions. Following this trend, Cartier updates its?Rotonde de Cartier Annual Calendar and introduces a 40mm edition, alongside the already existing 45mm version. Furthermore, this new Rotonde comes with several technical improvements. The main objective of horology had always been?miniaturization. The most demanding challenge is not to create complications but to implement them into the smallest case possible. Except when an incredible?level of technology requests a large case – like in the 48mm HYT H1 or the 47mm Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime – a watch should not be sized over 42mm or 43mm, especially when talking about a dress watch. First, it contradicts the main reason of horology. Then, it ruins two of the most important factors of the?wear
Recap: The Best Pilots Watches Of 2024
The Pilot’s Watch has always been one of the most popular types of watches, and for good reason. The utilitarian nature of the aviator watch lends itself perfectly to everyday life, thanks to excellent legibility (often), striking looks and robust construction. This year is no exception, as plenty of very cool new pilot watches entered the market. But which are the best ones? And do we see some new and unexpected entries takeover from established pilot’s watches? We’ve put our heads together to mull over what we think are the best Pilot’s Watches of 2024, and it’s a wonderful mix of bld and new!Albishorn Type 10 ChronographFirst up is an unexpected newcomer, the Albishorn Type 10 Chronograph. This fledgling independent watchmaker is headed by Sebastien Chaulmontet, a chronograph specialist and Head of Innovation and Marketing for Sellita. Under the moniker of “imaginary vintage“, Albishorn seeks to capture the spirit of what could have been bac
Patek Philippe Nautilus Perpetual Calendar 5740G (Specs & Price)
When Baselworld 2018 opened its?doors, this new watch came as a surprise. We could have expected this grand complication to coincide with the 40th anniversary of this iconic model – which took place two years ago, with the presentation of the?Platinum 3-hand 5711/1P and the White Gold Chronograph 5976/1G. Instead, Patek decided to wait two more years to introduce the first grand complication in the Nautilus collection. After the chronograph, the annual calendar or the travel time, here is the?Patek Philippe Nautilus Perpetual Calendar 5740G.Background – The addition of complications to the NautilusIn our books, here at MONOCHROME, the true essence of the Nautilus is a time-only watch, with a predominant focus on the style, the design, and its unique combination of refined luxury and sportiness. The Nautilus was born with two hands and a date (with the Ref. 3700, designed in 1976 by the late Gerald Genta) and still, the most coveted model in the collection is its direct desc
