The Collector's Series - Joseph McKenzie and his Girard Perregaux WWTC Chronograph World Timer - Monochrome Watches
This week on the Collector’s Series allowed me to go hands on with personal favourite watch of mine. It's a world timer and it comes from one of the most underrated (in my opinion) manufactures out there.?Joseph McKenzie is a business owner, watch collector and friend. He runs Xupes.com with his Father in the UK. A family run, online luxury business that cover fine watches, jewellery, handbags, investment wine and art. We have shared watch stories for many years and it felt right to ask him why he chose the Girard Perregaux WWTC.When did you first get into watches?I’ve always liked nice things. My wife brought me my first Hugo Boss watch when?I was 16 when we started seeing?each other. Back then, I?couldn't stop looking at it and enjoyed wearing it every day for a couple of years until?I upgraded to a Jaeger-LeCoultre.?I’ve always been intrigued by mechanics and the way things work.?I used to repair gearbox's on airsoft guns as a teenager (my first little business), s
Industry News: The Geneva Watch Days Return In 2023 With Nearly 40 Brands
If Watches & Wonders is, by far, the most important event of the year for the watch industry (because of the sheer number of exhibiting brands, participants and new models presented), another smaller yet highly interesting event has been taking place in watch-town since 2020. A different take on the watch salon, more relaxed, staged in lakeshore locations and open to the public, Geneva Watch Days will return again this year (29 August – 2 September) with almost 40 brands showcasing their latest releases at the Rotonde du Mont-Blanc pavilion on Lake Geneva, as well as at boutiques and venues throughout the city.?Geneva Watch Days started in 2020 as a modern, less institutional watch salon designed to give companies of all sizes a collaborative platform to showcase their work side by side. Created as an answer to lockdowns and the cancellation of Baselworld and SIHH-W&W, an antidote to (back then) difficult times for the watch industry, it was organised on the initiative of
IWC Portugieser Chronograph 3716 Steel Bracelet - Video Review, Price
Today is the opening of Watches & Wonders Shanghai, a new watch fair dedicated to the Chinese market. While the main idea for exhibiting brands is to display the watches introduced in April, some of them have decided to benefit from this physical and digital space to launch some new models. One of these is IWC, which brings an update to what is certainly one of its most emblematic models, the Portugieser Chronograph 3716, which comes for the first time on a stainless steel bracelet. And we have a video review of the watch above.BackgroundMinimalistic yet easily recognizable, well-designed and with a nautical sporty-chic vibe, the modern Portugieser finds its roots in the late 1930s following the request of two Portuguese merchants who wanted to have the precision of IWC's deck clocks in a wristwatch format for sailing. The result was a large wristwatch powered by a pocket watch movement with a distinctive design and a minimalist approach focused on legibility and precision.?The pre
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m PyeongChang 2018 Limited Edition
In?exactly?one year from now, on February 9, 2018, the?2018 Winter Olympics will open their doors in?PyeongChang, South Korea. As it is now common, the official timekeeper of the?Olympics will again be Omega Watches. Indeed, the Biel-based brand has fulfilled the role on 27 occasions since 1932. And because it has now become a very common practice (see the 2016 Rio Editions, here and here, or the first?PyeongChang Edition), Omega will have a dedicated watch to celebrate the event. With?the colours of the South Korean flag as an inspiration, here is the?Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m PyeongChang 2018 Limited Edition. This new?PyeongChang 2018 Limited Edition is based on the updated?version of the Omega Planet Ocean 600m, introduced last year at Baselworld. This 43.5mm dive watch shows a specific color scheme for the occasion of the?Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, all based on the colors of the?South Korean flag, meaning blue and red.?Limited to 2,018 pieces, this Seamaster Plan
Hands-On Oris Coulson Limited Edition (Specs, Price)
Like many watchmakers these days, Oris is working on improving the planet and supporting relevant organizations. In fact, it's now independently certified as a climate-neutral company. Its latest partnership is with Coulson Aviation, a family-run Canadian agency that sends planes and equipment around the world to fight wildfires. Of course, there's a new watch to mark the occasion that's based on the Big Crown ProPilot series. It strays from the norm with an innovative carbon fibre case and fiery dial, but retains the well-established aesthetic. And what better way to leave 2022 than with a watch honouring a great cause??Coulson Aviation at workCoulson AviationCoulson Aviation was founded in 1960 as a logging company by Cliff Coulson, but his son Wayne helped diversify things and now runs the aerial firefighting arm with his own sons, Britton and Foster. Among their dangerous and vital services is flying a Boeing 737 passenger jet at 200 feet over burning houses. The organization can f
