Capturing perfectly the Chopard spirit, the 18k rose gold case houses the silky iridescence and delicate touch of the textured mother-of-pearl dial in vibrant white, with matching leather straps. The Battle of High-End Chronographs Part 3 - Patek vs. Lange... The Verdict - Monochrome Watches
Having reviewed both the A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Chronograph and the Patek Philippe Chronograph 5172G manual-winding chronographs in previous days, today it's time for a face-off between these two premium contenders. Both are undeniably beautiful examples of the ‘pure-chronograph-no-additional-complications genre’ and both are impeccably crafted. But they are as different as chalk and cheese, so please, take a ringside seat and see if you agree with our verdict in the battle of high-end chronographs pitting the Lange versus the Patek.Case Size, Presence and MaterialPatek Philippe's ref. 5172G has a 41mm diameter and a height of 11.45mm, A. Lange & Sohne's 1815 Chronograph measures 39.5mm with a height of 11mm. Both models feature lateral pushers for the chronograph functions, but that's about where the similarities end. Although the Patek is slightly larger than the Lange, it sits flatter on the wrist thanks to the stepped design of the case and
SIHH 2015 - Hands-on with the Rotonde de Cartier Grand Complication Calibre 9406MC (live photos & specs) - Monochrome Watches
Alongside the consumer oriented watches, Cartier has another field of mastering: extremely complicated watches. Just take a look at the Astrontourbillon Skeleton,?the Tank MC Skeleton, the bunch of Tourbillon, minute repeaters or perpetual calendars in the catalog. We’re far from a simple – but?highly cool – Tank or Santos. For the 2015 edition of the SIHH, Cartier comes with something truly spectacular, mixing 3 of the main complications – tourbillon, minute repeater and Perpetual calendar – in a very slim movement. Here is the?Rotonde de Cartier Grand Complication Calibre 9406MC.What we have here is haute horlogerie at its finest. Not only three of the main complications are brought together in the Rotonde de Cartier, but to the package is added a?skeletonized dial, an automatic winding ?mechanism into?a slim – 5.49mm – movement (which is, considering the level of complexity, impressive). The Rotonde de Cartier Grand Complication Calibre 9406
Collector's Corner - Chopard L.U.C 16/1860 and The Calibre 96
After a brief hiatus, we return to The Collector's Corner, with an entry that is as far removed from the Omega Seamaster Professional 300M?and the Explorer II Polar 16570?we last looked at, in both form and function. At Watches & Wonders 2022 (check out our full coverage here), Chopard presented not one, but three chiming watches to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the jeweller's haute horlogerie ambitions under the L.U.C line. We thought it would thus be relevant to take a closer look at the beginnings of L.U.C and, more importantly, the groundbreaking movement powering it, the superb calibre 96.01… and of course, the ultra-desirable and elegant watches that came equipped with it.The Calibre 96.01 was launched in 1996 as Chopard's first in-house, automatic movement, and was developed over three years with a clear goal: establish Chopard as a serious contender was so forward-looking that its derivative movements still continue to power Chopard's latest cr
Introducing Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-018 Tiffany 170th Anniversary
This just in… Yes, you’ve read correctly, there’s a new edition of the Nautilus coming. And while we thought the Olive Green version to be the last of the 5711 series – and that’s what was claimed back when it was introduced – The New York Times just broke the news that there’s actually a sequel to the last of the Nautilus 5711, a watch that will be made in extremely low quantities – even less than the Olive Green model – a watch made to celebrate an important anniversary of one of their oldest partners, and a watch that is not just about the double-signed dial, but also about an unprecedented dial colour. And yes, this is the new Baby-Blue Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-018 for Tiffany’s 170th Anniversary. And it’s not fake news. The 5711 is, by far, the most coveted timepiece on the market today – at least when it comes to mainstream luxury brands. Recently, the brand’s president, Mr Stern, announced the en
Just Because: Singapore Watch Club Releases a Collection of 15 Vacheron Constantin Chronograph 47101
Watch clubs are burgeoning worldwide to gather enthusiasts around a single passion: their appreciation of beautiful timepieces. We’ve seen this in all regions, such as, for instance, the Emirates Watch Club founded by Malek bin Easa. Travelling further East is the Singapore Watch Club, which was founded in 2015 and has been gathering collectors and watch enthusiasts for over eight years. And to celebrate their existence, 15 members have been working together with Vacheron Constantin around the creation of a collection of restored neo-retro watches, the glorious Chronograph 47101. The result is here, and it is stunning. To quote its members: “The Singapore Watch Club was founded on 31st October 2015 when a few watch geeks who met on Instagram got together and bonded over beer, and the rest is history“. Born from the simple idea of sharing a common passion for watches, the SWC is yet another great initiative to raise awareness of watchmaking and c
