News: Universal Geneve Teases its 2026 Return, with Three 70th Anniversary Polerouter SAS Tribute Watches
The Polerouter is, without a doubt, one of the most emblematic watches ever created by Universal Geneve. Not only was it designed by young Gerald Genta, but it was powered by an important micro-rotor movement and was a purpose-built watch created by request of SAS, asking Universal Geneve to create a watch that could support pilots flying over the North Pole for the first time – which occurred exactly 70 years ago, on November 15, 1954. Now, you're certainly aware that, under the guidance of Georges Kern (CEO of Breitling), together with private investment firms Partners Group and CVC Capital Partners, Universal Geneve will be back soon. But before we see what the brand has to offer (in 2026), here's a tribute to the Polerouter SAS Watches. Three faithful recreations with historic micro-rotor movements, each a unique piece, one of which will be auctioned Are we seeing here a draft for future models to come? This will remain a question for now.?A quick recap about the Universal Ge
Doxa Sub300 50th Anniversary - Review, History, Specs & Price
At Baselworld 2016, Doxa introduced its 50th Anniversary Sub300 model, a great dive watch with unquestionable pedigree. So we, at Monochrome, eagerly waited for a prototype to arrive at the HQ for a review. Once a black-dial Sharkhunter variant received, we immediately put it to its paces comparing, debating and discussing about it. That is the purpose of this article: make you understand how important and cool this watch is. However, before I proceed with my assessment, I feel that a short overview of the history of the company is needed to put things into a proper perspective. Background - Doxa through historyDoxa was founded by Georges Ducommun as Georges Ducommun, Fabriques Doxa in 1889 in Le Locle, Switzerland. The company rose to prominence in 1908 with the introduction of an 8-day watch movement, which offered motorists and aviators a dash-mounted timepiece providing greater ease of reading. Doxa patented an instrument, using this movement, purpose-built to be mounted on cars' an
Introducing: The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Chronograph Moon
During the 2024 edition of Watches & Wonders, Jaeger-LeCoultre welcomes back the Duometre, one of its most technical, high-end collections. Thanks to the development of the new calibre 391, the Duometre Chronograph Moon combines a high-precision chronograph with a celestial complication. Further evolutions regarding the case and dial mark this model as one of the brand’s most important releases for 2024.Jaeger-LeCoultre launched its groundbreaking Duometre mechanism in 2007. Determined to overcome the problem posed by complications that deplete the power reserve and jeopardise the escapement’s precision, JLC masterminded the Duometre or Dual-Wing system, a two-pronged solution composed of two independent mechanisms. Fitted with two separate barrels and two independent gear trains, one is tasked with driving the escapement and keeping the time functions, while the other powers the complications. With its two independent mechanisms united by a single regulating organ, the
TAG Heuer Carrera Caliber 5 Ring Master Muhammad Ali - Hands-On
I hated every minute of training, but I said: Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion. Could this be the silver-tongued boxing champion's own version of Don't crack under pressure? Muhammad Ali was not just one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, he was also a vocal civil right activist with a legendary never-back-down attitude. Last month, at a charity boxing event hosted at Gleason's Gym, Brooklyn's legendary boxing club and Ali's old stomping ground, TAG Heuer unveiled a collection of special edition steel watches to pay tribute to Muhammad Ali. Inspired by the brand's 1950s Ring-Master watch - a stopwatch featuring interchangeable rings for timing different sports including boxing - we take a hands on look at the TAG Heuer Carrera Caliber 5 Ring Master Muhammad Ali.Meet the latest addition to the Carrera collection; a tribute watch that stands out for its distinctive look and unique boxing match timer function. The model draws its inspiration
Vacheron Constantin vintage chronograph ref. 4072 hands-on - Monochrome-Watches
It won’t be the first time we say it: buying vintage watches can be risky. If the trustworthiness of the seller has already?been established, one’s attention has to be turned toward the authenticity of the watch itself. By that, we mean verifying it has the right pieces, the right hands or dial and not replacement ones – or even worse, pieces from another reference. In order to define what a genuine (and amazing) vintage watch is, we went to the Vacheron Constantin boutique in Paris and got our hands on a 1940s chronograph that made us fall in love.?Usually, the three ways to buy a vintage watch are through auctions, specialized shops and forums (we won’t mention here a certain auction website that everyone knows to be dangerous). These were really your only options until a few months ago, when Vacheron Constantin created a true collectors’ club (TheHourClub) and decided to sell some of their historical pieces inside their own boutiques (Paris, Geneva and
