2020 will be remembered as a traumatic year but also a turning point. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted virtually all aspects of human life. As far as the watch industry is concerned, it has been severely hit by the sanitary crisis. Swiss watch exports have seen a decline of 23.5% over the 11 first months of 2020. The pandemic is also a catalyst for monumental changes for the watch industry. Many will describe it as the steepest learning curve of their professional lives. With brands under pressure to make their business model fit the times, the pandemic has intensified the need to manage change, to quickly decide and act, and to be agile. Some brands simply seem immune to crisis and the industry is getting more and more polarized. Brands like , Patek Philippe, or Audemars Piguet still have many of their watches on long waiting lists. Some ‘established’ independent brands, for instance, F.P. Calibre 11 - Vintage Heuer watches - Monochrome Watches
Calibre 11 is the first automatic chronograph and the name of a new weblog dedicated to Vintage Heuer watches. If you’re into vintage Heuer watches, you might want to check it out. Since my first ‘expensive’ watch, a vintage Heuer Autavia, i’m a huge fan of vintage Heuer watches. Especially their chronographs. The fact they made the first automatic chronograph ever, also adds to my admiration of these watches…. OK, they developed it together with Buren, Breitling and Dubois-Depraz. Although i must admit some of the Heuer dive watches aren’t bad either, i have a thing for chronographs. I ended up buying the diver’s version of the Heuer Autavia ??My vintage Heuer AutaviaUnfortunately my biggest love (in watches), the independent watchmakers, hardly make any chronograph. Of course there are a few… the MIH Watch of course and the Habring2 Chrono COS. Both beautiful chronographs and made by independent watchmakers. Ad - Scroll to co
Inside the IWC Manufacturing Centre and the 'MY IWC' 8-Year Warranty Program - VIDEO
If you want to get a good understanding of a watch company, visiting the manufacture is really something you should plan. This is how you truly discover how a manufacture builds its watches, defines quality, and find out what is made “in-house”. IWC was born from an industrial vision, as F.A. Jones set up his manufacture next to the river Rhine. Here, he could combine American production methods, hydro-power from the river and Swiss watchmaking skills. IWC Schaffhausen recently opened its new, and very impressive “Manufacturing Centre”. IWC has invested heavily in building a large portfolio of movements in these new production facilities. This is key for the brand to be able to innovate and to have total control over its quality. Ad - Scroll to continue with article Join us inside the
