Where does the name of your favorite watch brands come from? - Monochrome Watches
Ever wonder how watch brands?got their name? Some are pretty straight forward; some others are more obscure. With hundreds of past and present watch companies, what?has been the inspiration from watchmakers to find names? Some simply follow the name of their founder, other went for anagrams, and some for hidden meanings Here is a (non-exhaustive) horological meandering through the mechanics of watch brands' names.Founder – Breguet. The need to envelop watches in a form of a brand, founded on the symbolism of a person, led very early to the use of patronyms, in particular eponymous brands that take the name of their founder (even if decades ago the notion of brand itself was totally different from what it is today). What a better example than one of the greatest horologists of all times to illustrate this? The fame of Abraham Louis Breguet was such that his name inspired the greatest writers of his century – ?Stendhal, Pouchkine, Merimee, Balzac or Dumas to name a few.

Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 7234G (Price)
When it first came on the market in 2015, the Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 5524G clearly made some noise. It was simply miles away from your classic Calatrava watch and marked the first production Pilot’s watch created by Patek (there were some prototypes in the past, though). But the watch found its place in the collection, as a sportier yet still luxurious offer. It was then be followed by a mid-size offer (advertised as a feminine watch, but that I prefer to call unisex), with identical functions and a smaller 37.5mm. And now there’s a new version of this watch in blue attire. Meet the Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time 7234G-001.In 2015, the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time really surprised the crowd at Baselworld. No doubt, this was a disruptive watch, especially compared to other extremely classical watches offered in the Calatrava collection (thin, compact dress watches mostly). A highly unusual design for Patek with a large and sporty case, matte bl
Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Chronograph Calendar 2020 Hands-On
Earlier this year, during the digital presentation of Watches & Wonders, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveiled a refreshed take on its Master Control collection. Among the four watches representing the updated 2020 design features is the Master Control Chronograph Calendar, a captivating combination of complications that immediately caught our eye. Equipped with a column-wheel chronograph and triple calendar display with moon phases, the Master Control Chronograph Calendar marks the first time JLC concocts this mix of complications. With its refined whiff of the 1950s without being a vintage throwback, this beautiful Master Control Chronograph Calendar is fitted with a new automatic in-house movement. Let's take a closer look at this compelling combo of complications.Master ControlIntroduced in 1992, the defining spirit of the Master Control collection is the combination of technical rigour with stylistic restraint drawing on inspiration from classic round timepieces made by JLC in the 1950s.
Oris Divers Sixty-Five Silver Dial - Hands-On Review (Specs & Price)
In a recent piece of news, Oris announced a new iteration for?the 42mm Divers Sixty-Five. While this model already exists in?blue or green, it now comes with a rather unexpected dial, which even if strongly playing on the usual vintage theme of the collection (and maybe even more now) is featuring?a silver color, something rather unusual for a dive watch. Well, this?Oris Divers Sixty-Five Silver Dial was clearly requiring to be seen in the metal (no press photo can give credits to a watch), something we did during the brand’s pre-Baselworld Preview where we already saw the?Oris Altimeter Rega Limited Edition. And believe us, it was necessary. If you are here, reading these lines, you must have already a certain interest in watches. Thus, you are probably already aware of the?Oris Divers Sixty-Five and most of its variations. And if not, here is a small reminder. The “65” was introduced at Baselworld 2015, in its black dial / 40mm version, as a modern interpretation of
