The Refined Honeygold Edition of The A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk Minute Repeater
A. Lange & Sohne's Zeitwerk Minute Repeater is an extraordinary, highly original watch that perfectly captures the personality of this grand Saxon brand. As the only mechanical wristwatch to combine a jumping numerals display with a decimal minute repeater, the Zeitwerk is visually and acoustically exceptional. Following the first platinum Zeitwerk Minute Repeater of 2015 and the white gold model of 2020, the brand releases a limited edition of 30 Zeitwerk Minute Repeaters crafted in warm Honeygold.HoneygoldHoneygold is a top-secret alloy developed for Lange in 2010. Its unique colour, which looks like liquid honey, is reserved for Lange's most exclusive timepieces. Harder than platinum and other gold alloys - and therefore much more challenging to shape and finish - Honeygold has an extremely subtle and elegant tone. Ad - Scroll to continue with article Ins
A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar Limited Edition Salmon
There are many watches that we’ve named ‘iconic’ or ’emblematic’ over the years, but few modern timepieces can rival the status of the Lange 1 when it comes to high-end, elegant and finely manufactured watches. A watch that has defined the brand since its resurrection in 1994 – thanks to the joint work of Walter Lange and Gunter Blumlein – and that has been made in dozens of variations over the years, it has surprisingly never been made in a perpetual calendar-only edition… until recently. Surely, there has been a tourbillon QP, but it took the Saxon brand 27 years to propose what is a classic of haute horlogerie. And the result is, without a doubt, very convincing, as we’re about to see with the stunning Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar Limited Edition in white gold with “salmon” pink gold dial… Yes, we love this combination at MONOCHROME!The Lange 1…This watch, with its unusually offset yet elegant display based
Review - Piaget Polo S Chronograph Steel (Specs & Price)
When the Piaget Polo S Chronograph (and time-and-date too) was unveiled last year in New York, the response was divisive to say the least. Many thought it paid too close a homage to certain other iconic steel sports watches, whilst others welcomed this bold move by Piaget to offer some more accessible models. Now, more than a year on, the dust has settled a bit and (presumably) emotions aren't running quite so high, which makes it the perfect time for a hands-on review of the Piaget Polo S Chronograph in steel.I must admit, when I first saw the press photos of the Polo S and the Polo S Chronograph last year, I was not particularly impressed. Whilst certainly a big step for Piaget design wise, the watches seemed to fall short of the mark, especially given that the accompanying marketing hype was all about leading rather than following. That said, I do feel that at the time it was difficult to form an impartial opinion, particularly given the endless stream of critical feedback on social
Top 5 Watches from Baselworld 2016 by Frank Geelen - Monochrome Watches
After Robin and Brice?shared their personal Top 5 watches from?Baselworld 2016, it's time for my Top 5 of the most impressive watches from this year's edition of Baselworld. My choices of watches are?not exclusively focused on the most expensive or most complicated timepieces; sometimes all it takes to make a strong impression is a great looking watch for a great price. At Baselworld, it was again clear that some brands are very good in?that! Think of Frederique Constant who introduced the world's most affordable perpetual calendar, Tudor with their new (well, last year they introduced it) in-house movement that finds its way into the collection, and Meistersinger and Oris still doing great things. However I'll start my Top 5 with the watch that I finally (the wait was long) got to see in the metal' on the first day of the fair.1 – Gronefeld 1941 RemontoireThe first day of Baselworld, Wednesday, is press day and many brands do press conferences to inform members of the press abou
Hands-On Van Der Gang Original Calendar Chronograph Ref. 20052 (Specs & Price)
Making a name in the watch industry when you’re not Swiss and don’t have a 150-year pedigree isn’t an easy task. Apart from the usual quality and price aspects, the key is differentiation – which can lead to making things in an exaggerated way. Finding the balance between this need for being different and beautiful, elegant and timeless design will be salvation. Has Dutch brand Van Der Gang found this balance? We’ll try to find out with one of their classic offerings, the Original Calendar Chronograph Ref. 20052. (Spoiler… They did)Van Der Gang backgroundVan Der Gang watches was created by Wybe van de Gang, a Dutch entrepreneur. After finishing his education at the precision engineer school in Leiden in 1990, he established his own company: Exakt Fijnmechanika – an international player in the field of production techniques for the smallest possible parts, supplying products to the aviation, aerospace and medical industries.
