The Apple Watch through the Eyes of the Industry Leaders - Monochrome Watches
When Apple introduced the highly anticipated iWatch… err… Apple Watch last week, it felt a bit like half of the watch industry was holding their breath. Would this be the death sentence for mechanical watches? I had my say about the Apple Watch last week, immediately after it was launched, and wondered what the industry leaders think of this ‘new development’. Monochrome?asked a few CEO’s of major watch brands to share their thought on the Apple Watch. Here’s what they think…Wilhelm Schmid (CEO of A. Lange & Sohne), Stephane Linder (CEO of TAG Heuer) and mr. Angelo Bonati (CEO of Panerai) share their opinion on the new Apple Watch and smart watches in general. And there was of course Jean-Claude Biver (allround watch guru and industry expert for LVMH Group) who’s never shy to share his spicy honest opinion. In an interview with German newspaper Der Welt he called the Apple Watch “too feminine” and “designed by a firs
Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille Will Leave the SIHH as of 2020 - Monochrome Watches
While it became quite common to hear brands leaving Baselworld and complaining about the show (Swatch Group a few weeks ago, Raymond Weil this morning), the Geneva-based, Richemont-controlled Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie – or SIHH – was still?in safer waters… As of today, as?it’s time for the SIHH to also face non-neglectable departures. Good point is that it isn’t for this year, as indicated by?CEO Fran?ois-Henry Bennahmias in Le Temps, Audemars Piguet will still be there at the SIHH 2019… But that will be its last appearance.“The 2019 edition will be the last for us. Then the SIHH and Audemars Piguet will take different directions” said FHB to?Le Temps. The main reason indicated by the CEO of AP is that trade shows aren’t in line anymore with expectations of brands, and that such fairs are only intended for professionals (press and retailers). “Today we want to focus 100% on the end customer,” said FHB. Interview: Yasho Saboo, Chairman of Ethos, About The Fastest-Growing Market that is India
The watch industry and its market are in constant evolution, with new brands appearing almost daily. The distribution has to face intense volatility due to the duplication of selling channels, the increased pressure of business combinations and the recent rise of certified pre-owned (CPO), which concerns but also many more brands. A handful of retailers, however, have a strong influence on their domestic markets, such as Ethos Watches, an inescapable name in India. We're talking with Yashovardhan Saboo, a.k.a Yasho Saboo, Chairman of a heavyweight retailing group, who shares his 360-degree vision on the business in India and beyond.?Pascal Brandt, MONOCHROME – A recent survey mentioned India as a future top market leader for luxury products. Hands-On - Chronoswiss Flying Grand Regulator Skeleton Limited Edition (Specs & Price)
There are certain watch brands that are unmistakable at first sight. Panerai and Richard Mille come to mind. Chronoswiss is another such brand with its signature regulator displays, knurled cases and large onion crowns. Since 1987, Chronoswiss has celebrated this regulator design and built a brand identity around it. Following up on recent regulator models, such as the Flying Regulator Open Gear and Flying Regulator Night and Day, the relatively young brand of 35 years has introduced a limited edition Flying Grand Regulator Skeleton in steel. The dial has been scaled back to the bare essentials and provides an almost unfettered view of the skeletonised movement. It's a bold and modern addition to the series.Regulator displays have a history dating back to the early 18th?century. Regulator clocks adopted a non-coaxial face, which separated the time elements (hour, minute and second hands) from the more common central position. These regulator master clocks became references for adjustin
The New Dial Colours Of The Vacheron Constantin Patrimony
As the world's oldest watch manufacturer in continuous production since 1755, Vacheron Constantin can be proud of its distinguished heritage. With a rich archive at its disposition, the brand can dip into over two and a half centuries for inspiration. The Patrimony collection made its debut in 2004 and turned its gaze back to the elegant minimalism of the 1950s for inspiration, particularly the 1957 ref. 6179 characterised by its slim, round case, slender bezel and understated styling. A balance between the rounded curves and taut lines distinguishes the collection that proposes three refreshed models for 2024. While the specifications of the Patrimony Manual-Winding and Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date remain almost untouched, the novelties are the incorporation of a new silver-toned dial, a smaller case size for the manual-winding model and a refreshing palette of strap colours.Although the brand describes the new dial colour as an old-silver-toned colour, the press photographs i
