WATCH & ACT! - Together with Time+Tide, Help Fight the Australian Bushfire Crisis With Great Watches To Be Auctioned - Monochrome Watches
Today we have a very special story… A story that I’m both sad and happy to write. Sad, for the main reason that it is all due to one of the world’s worse ecological events, the current Australian bushfire crisis. Yet, I’m also happy to write these words as multiple actors within the watch community – watch manufacturers and watch media – have decided to join a cause and to act. For once, all together, we can let our love for watches go a long way further than our wrists. We can make our passion be a solution to raise funds to help a cause. This cause is “Watch & Act!”, an auction of 16 watches with 100% of proceeds to be distributed across charities to help fight Australia’s environmental nightmare. The bushfire situationIf you’ve watched the news in recent weeks, you can’t have missed what’s happening in Australia. The “Bushfire Crisis” is now known as one of the most terrible ecological events of t
Pre-SIHH 2015: Piaget Altiplano Chronograph Flyback - a new record setter (specs and price) - Monochrome-Watches
If we had to?categorize Piaget into a single subject, it would be for its ultra-slim watches. The brand is indeed not only good at it, it is the unbeatable leader. The?Altiplano has always been the preferred field for Piaget to set thickness records (well, an?absence of thickness to be precise). Last year, the brand came up with the?slimmest of the?slim watches. For the 2015 edition of the SIHH, Piaget?surprises us with a another record: the slimmest chronograph?ever produced, the?Piaget Altiplano Chronograph Flyback. And its?thinness is not its only interesting feature. One single data can sum-up Piaget’s?indisputable?hegemony: 3.65mm. Yes, that’s the thickness of a sapphire crystal, a case, a dial, a set of hands, a movement and a caseback. The Piaget Altiplano 900P is truly impressive. Until?now, Piaget has?accustomed us to slim but simple watches: time-only, small second or date were the only indications displayed on the Altiplano’s dials, which of course remains e
Weekly Watch Photo - Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Traditionnelle Chronograph Paris Boutique - Monochrome Watches
The summer is coming, or at least that’s the feeling that I get from the few lovely warm and sunny days, that we enjoyed over the past weeks. OK, the number of rainy, windy, and cold days still outnumber the nice days, but after a very long and miserable winter it feels like a step in the right direction. And when I think of the summer I think of the sunny beaches in the south of France, enjoying a glass of wine on a terrace in small town in Burgundy, or strolling the streets of Paris with my girlfriend. That reminds me of the new must-visit place in the French capitol, located at 2 Rue de la Paix. This is the address of Vacheron Constantin’s new boutique (we showed you the dedicated website and stunning B&W photos here) and to celebrate this, Vacheron introduced four limited editions of the Patrimony Traditionnelle collection, which all feature a stunning?hand-guilloche opaline silver-toned dial. The hand-guilloche pattern on the creme, or off-white, or light-beige, or,
First Look: The Baltic MR Roulette Collection
Founded in 2017 by Etienne Malec and friends, Baltic continues its rapid expansion to the point of not being able to use the term micro-brand anymore… Now an established watch brand with a comprehensive collection, ranging from racing chronographs to dive watches and adventure-themed models, Baltic also ventured into the world of dress watches with success, releasing its Calatrava-inspired MR01 collection in 2021. It is now time for the first evolution of this watch as we’re discovering the new Baltic MR Roulette Collection, in a style that was teased a couple of years ago in a collaboration model. The new Baltic MR Roulette is basically a dial evolution of the classic MR01 model (with minor adjustments on the case too). As such, all the great ingredients of the original compact dress watch are kept intact. What it does is add the striking vintage roulette-styled, Patek-inspired dial of the collaboration with A Collected Man to the permanent collection. This art-deco, highly
Testing the Oris Aquis Depth Gauge - Underwater Testing Video - Monochrome Watches
Back in February of this year we already showed you, what is probably the most simple yet smart mechanical depth gauge in a dive watch. Ever. Period. The Oris Aquis Depth Gauge features a brilliantly simple glass tube with one opening that allows water to enter. How far the water penetrates in the tube, depends on the pressure and thus on the depth. Simple as that, but does it really work? That’s a question that our new partners from Chronos / Watch Time also asked themselves. They had the chance to test the Oris Aquis Depth Gauge in its natural habitat and recorded a video (see above) of that test. Naturally we already explained every technical detail of this brilliant dive watch – check here for the full explanation -, but these test results complete the picture that we have of it. Since the video is in German, we will translate the findings for you. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
