Back To Basics With The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 18 Chronograph - Monochrome-Watches
TAG Heuer is a sentimental favorite for me. The black and gold 1000 Professional Diver 980.029N was one of the first watches I can remember lusting after. A beat-up pre-owned Formula 1 watch was as close as I ever got to the 1000 Pro. Over the years I've watched the brand go through some funky gyrations as they experimented with smartphones (groan!) and leather goods (not such a groan) culminating in that famous period several years back when you needed to click through a ridiculous number of menu options before you could see a single watch on their website! Perhaps the identity crisis is coming to a close as we see the Heuer logo adorn a watch meant for racing. One of my friends from university and I have a plan: to make it to age 60 and begin racing classic cars. Frankly, we've both struggled to get to the point where buying, restoring and racing a car in a race like the Mille Miglia or Carrera Panamerica is not such crazy idea. We took our beatings when it was time to get beat-up. We
Introducing Indie Watchmaker Nicolas Commergnat's First Watch, The Level One
Extreme simplicity, attention to detail and the wish to create a timeless watch, visually and mechanically. This is how we could summarise the work of Nicolas Commergnat, an independent watchmaker who is launching his eponymous brand but who is also a well-known name in the restoration and auction world. Known for his ability to bring complicated pocket watches back to life and his skills when it comes to creating movements “for others”, he decided that it was time for his own name to be on the dial of a watch. And it’s here, with the Nicolas Commergnat Level One, the first of a series of watches developed in the frame of a clear vision for his brand. Who is Nicolas Commergnat? Graduating from the ecole d’Horlogerie de Geneve, where he’d interned at Patek Philippe, he started his career next to AHCI co-founder and master watchmaker Sven Andersen. In addition, Nicolas also worked as a restaurateur of antique pocket watches, his first
Montblanc Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum Gold Limited Edition - Review
Back in 2014, Montblanc introduced the Heritage Spirit Orbis Terrarum Worldtimer, which brought an accessible price to a traditionally expensive complication. World timers are often the darlings of Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe and the like, but Montblanc helped usher in more affordable options along with Frederique Constant and a handful of others. The new Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum heads north on the price with a limited edition 18k rose gold case and accents but offers a stunning overall package without an astronomical price. Larger than before and with a monochromatic colour palette, Montblanc's latest limited piece is a solid entry into luxury world timers.?BackgroundWorld time was established in 1884 (24 time zones) and it took some time for watchmakers to develop a complication to accommodate world travellers. Swiss watchmaker Louis Cottier created the first mechanism to display world time in 1930 and Vacheron Constantin capitalised on this in 1932 with a pocket watch. It
Kickstarter - Meraud Bonaire, a Cool, Retro-Inspired Dive Watch From Belgium (Specs & Price)
Belgium might not be the first country you think of when it comes to watches. Of course, there’s Ressence and its impressively modern watches, but that’s about it. And now there’s a newcomer on the market called Meraud, which has just launched its first watch a few hours ago on Kickstarter. Get used to this new launch pad format because it is the way to go nowadays when you want to start a brand. The first model is named “Bonaire” and it is quite a cool-looking, retro-inspired dive watch with multiple details to catch our attention. Overview.Meraud Watch Co. was founded by vintage watch collector and one of the leading members of the Belgium Watch Club, Stijn Busschaert. A watch enthusiast for years, Stijn decided to harness his passion and create his own brand. The idea behind Meraud was to create modernly crafted watches infused with vintage references – so-called “Heritage” watches – at a reasonable price. Ad - Scroll
Ochs und Junior Due Ore reviewed - Monochrome Watches
Ochs und Junior is the brain-child of Ludwig Oechslin and Beat Weinman and recently Ulysse Nardin came on board as the third partner. A logical third partner, if you know more about Oechslin’s achievements in the horological world. Since 2009 his ideas take shape in Ochs und Junior timepieces.?Ochs und Junior watches are recognizable by their clean and almost industrial design, lacking any kind of typical watchmaking finishing. And lacking any name or logo! The minimalistic design and raw, unfinished, machined parts determine the looks of all Ochs und Junior timepieces. Luckily I was allowed to borrow a Due Ore for a review.?It's a tough job, but somebody's gotto do it Ad - Scroll to continue with article HistoryI wanted to say that the story began with Ochs und Junior’s first timepiece, the Anno Cinquanta, however that wouldn’t be correct.
