Weekly Watch Photo - A. Lange & Sohne's Black Magic - Monochrome Watches
Like every week, we’ll show you Monochrome’s selection of stunning photos of equally stunning timepieces, for a smooth start of the week. This week A. Lange & Sohne caters a set of brilliant black & white photos. The timepieces are different models with a black dial and white metal (white gold or platinum) from the collection. A. Lange & Sohne’s Black Magic…Starts of our Weekly Watch Photo are (from left): Grand Lange 1 in white gold with black dial (introduced at the SIHH 2013), Grand Lange 1 Lumen (also introduced late last year), the magnificent Datograph up/down (that was introduced in 2012), Lange Zeitwerk Luminous and the ‘normal’ Lange Zeitwerk (although there is nothing normal about the Zeitwerk). Let’s have a look at A. Lange & Sohne’s mix & match. First one of my personal favorites… the new Datograph. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
First Look: The Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42mm Pink Gold Sage Green and Ultramarine Blue
One of the earliest models in the so-called luxury sports watch category, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato, was released in 1975 and powered by a quartz movement. In 1984, mechanical movements found their way into this original barrel-shaped watch, and this has become the norm since the return of the watch in 2016. Now an established collection with countless variations and colours, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato range extends once more this year with the addition of two original colours – sage green and ultramarine blue – inside luxurious pink gold cases.?The design of the Laureato was set in stone back in 1975, making it one of the earliest members of the highly regarded luxury sports watch category – and while it came after the all-important Royal Oak (1972), it predates three other icons, the Patek Nautilus (1976), the IWC Ingenieur (1976) and the Vacheron 222 (1977). A classic of the genre, the Laureato was built around a shaped case with an integrated bracelet. The
Announcing "The Vintage Corner" and New Contributor Alistair Gibbons
For the past 10+ years MONOCHROME has been about new watches and although the focus has pretty much always been on “new” – we always blended in a lot of history, technicalities and finishing – there was sometimes the odd story about a vintage watch. But that’s gonna change. Today we’re starting “The Vintage Corner”, our weekly rendez-vous on the topic of anything vintage. It’s my pleasure to introduce the man who’s gonna run our Friday afternoon vintage instalment, book author, watch collector, vintage enthusiast, content creator, Alistair Gibbons.?There were plenty of reasons why we didn’t cover vintage. First and foremost, our core team (which includes Rebecca, Brice, Xavier and myself) is not very knowledgeable about vintage. Sure, we know a bit, but not enough to bring you the expertise that we can do in the field of new watches. The world of vintage is a murky world. I’ve seen too often that the most sought-af
Van der Gang 20019 Chronograph (Specs & Price)
Balance is key in watches, not only from an engineering perspective but also as a code of conduct when it comes to design. Wybe van der Gang, namesake and founder to the Van der Gang watch manufacture based in Dokkum, the Netherlands, has made this the core of his brand. Balanced, stylish design, with intriguing details and features, through all the collections. We go in-depth with one of their striking watches, the Van der Gang 20019 Chronograph. The search for the perfect balance between functional technicality, simplicity in designs and ease of use has been present from the beginning of this watchmaking story. Launching a precision-engineering company dedicated to aerospace technology, clockwork, medical and laboratory technology industries, which quickly grew into an international renowned player in the field of fine mechanics, the ultimate dream for Wybe van der Gang was to eventually use his knowledge and experience gathered over the years with his Exakt Fijnmechanika (Dutch for F
Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue M79030B - Specs & Price
This is it… Somehow unexpected but also envisioned by some collectors, the new Black Bay Fifty-Eight Navy Blue. We thought Tudor was not introducing new models this year, and they proved us wrong. First in line for 2020 (and maybe the only new model), a rather simple but efficient animation of an existing watch. Based on the praised and well-executed model introduced a couple of years ago, the brand now adds a cold colour scheme to its vintage-inspired diver.Blue is part of Tudor’s identity and has been widely used in past and modern models. We’re not going to go into full details here since we’ll be having a hands-on with this watch in a few days. But here’s what you need to know in a glance. Blue is an important colour for Tudor, mostly seen in the highly collectable Submariner watches manufactured for the French Navy (Marine Nationale). As such, we’ve seen multiple editions of modern Tudor watches presented in this desirable colour, including the 4
