Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst - Monochrome Watches
Last week we showed you the Grand Complication that A. Lange & So?hne introduced earlier this year (click here). It was Lange & Sohne’s first ‘grand complication’ but it was the second watch from this Saxon watch brand with a striking complication. The first timepiece from Lange that features a striking mechanism was the Zeitwerk Striking Time. The magnificent Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, that was introduced last year, also has something in common with the Zeitwerk, which is synthesized in the word ‘Handwerkskunst‘.During the Watches & Wonders fair that starts today, Wednesday September 25th, in Honk Kong, Lange & Sohne introduce the new Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst. ‘Handwerkskunst’ probably best translates as handwork art or the art of craftsmanship. The solid white gold dial is decorated with a rare combination of tremblage and relief engraving techniques. For the first time in a Lange timepi
Buying Guide: Six Titanium Watches For People Shopping On A Smaller Budget
Just last week we showed you six high-end watches that utilised all the benefits of titanium; lightweight, a tactile feel, robust and hypoallergenic. While all that is fine, the most affordable watch on that list cost CHF 7,700 and the most expensive one has a price that’s on request which needs little explaining in this industry. That’s money not all of us can or want to spend on a watch, really. To give you some friendlier priced alternatives, this week’s Buying Guide once again looks at titanium watches but this time ranging from EUR 650 to just under EUR 2,000 that deliver boat-loads of character and all the pleasurable attributes titanium has to offer!Citizen Promaster Mechanical Diver 200M “Fujitsubo” NB6021-17ELast year, Citizen impressed us with the retro-cool Promaster Mechanical Diver 200M “Fujitsubo NB6021-17E. Quite the mouthful, so we just call it the Fujitsubo. This absolute performance bargain of a watch comes with a Super Titanium cas
Hands-On: The Handsome 36mm Salmon Chopard L.U.C 1860 In Steel
Developed over three years, Chopard’s calibre 1.96 with a gold micro-rotor and a slim height of 3.3mm was released in 1996. Garnering praise as one of the finest automatic movements available, the movement established the brand as a true manufacture. The first watch to feature the in-house calibre was the L.U.C 1860 of 1997 with a 36.5mm case and elegant guilloche decoration on the dial. The latest L.U.C 1860 looks back to this 1997 timepiece and reproduces the compact 36.5mm case size but crafts it in Chopard’s exclusive Lucent Steel A223 alloy,? a first for the L.U.C family. Like the first L.U.C 1860, the dial is beautifully decorated with hand-guilloche patterns, but the date window has been eliminated. ?Compact dress watchThe compact 36.5mm diameter and thin 8.20mm thickness of the case are clearly indicative of its dress watch category. Crafted in Lucent Steel, a resistant and luminous alloy usually reserved for the Alpine Eagle collection, the three-part case features
Hands-On Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m GMT Master Chronometer
While the Speedmaster remains Omega’s most successful watch, specifically since the renewal of the collection recently, the other important pillar in the collection if, of course, the Seamaster. Past years have seen the brand focusing mostly on the Diver 300M. Yet, there’s another dive watch that deserves some attention, an even more powerful model with proper diving credentials, the Planet Ocean 600m. Recently, we got our hands on a model that we consider to be sort of a hidden gem in the collection… This is the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m GMT Master Chronometer and we give a closer look at it.?Neither the concept of an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m GMT nor this actual watch is new. In fact, the concept came on the market in 2013 and the watch we’ll be looking at today has been launched in 2016. Still, it is part of these watches that somehow didn’t get the recognition it truly deserves. This traveller’s PO 600M is a watch that has A LOT t
History of the Patek Philippe Calatrava Part 1 - The Reference 96
Patek Philippe is a brand that needs little to no introduction. In the watch world, it is known for making high quality, highly sought after timepieces of exceptional complexity. In the real world, it is known as one of the most prestigious brands on the planet, an instant indicator of wealth, stature and, of course, good taste. Pioneers of numerous technical advances, including the first perpetual calendar, the first annual calendar and, surprisingly, the first solid-state quartz watch with no moving parts, Patek Philippe has always been at the forefront of innovation. Yet, it is one of its most understated collections that has proven to be the most consistently successful commercially; the humble Patek Philippe Calatrava, or the essence of the prestigious dress watch. Today, we start with part 1 of this history of the?Patek Philippe Calatrava by looking at the first of them all, the 1932 Reference 96.One the earliest versions of the Patek Philippe Calatrava Reference 96, from the Pat
