In March 2020, Grand Seiko celebrated the 60th anniversary of its foundation by introducing a newly designed watch featuring a cutting-edge?and advanced movement, the Hi-Beat Calibre 9SA5 with multiple innovations, such as the novel Dual Impulse escapement. First presented in a gold case, followed by?a limited edition in steel, and a few weeks ago in a non-limited “Shirakaba” edition, both the design and movement returns this year in a high-end limited edition made of platinum and adorned by a stunning dial reflecting the spirit and vision of Kintaro Hattori, founder of Seiko. Looking back at last year's Watches & Wonders highlights
We're only days away from travelling to Switzerland again (yes, finally!) and meeting up with our friends and colleagues from the watchmaking industry and affiliated media outlets. It will be stressful, running from appointment to appointment and seeing tons of watches (boohoo, have pity on us) and get the news out to you as soon as possible so you're all caught up on all the novelties to come. And as ever, when looking forward, it never hurts to look over one’s shoulder in the process. So with that in mind, we've looked back and listed what we think were the five stand-out novelties from Watches & Wonders 2021.IWC Big Pilot's Watch 43mmOut of the five selected watches, this one has certainly caused a lot of debate. While we applaud the introduction of the smaller, wrist-friendlier IWC Big Pilot's Watch 43, we also feel for the fact some people do not consider it a true Big Pilot's Watch. As it does without the emblematic 7-day power reserve indication or at least a subdial o
Introducing Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin White Gold & Blue Dial
Chopard's first L.U.C calibre with a flying tourbillon made its debut at Baselworld 2019 in a rose gold case with a grey dial. The epitome of a contemporary dress watch with a nod to the past, Chopard's ultra-thin flying tourbillon returns this year in an ethical 18k white gold case with a handsome blue guilloche dial in a limited edition run of 50 pieces. Although it exhibits traditional complications like the tourbillon and traditional decorative techniques like guillochage, the L.U.C Flying T Twin does not fall into the category of a traditional' or classical' watch. Rather, it comes across as a remarkably elegant and refined contemporary dress watch powered by a sophisticated ultra-thin movement with a robust power reserve. Like its predecessor, the watch is COSC chronometer-certified and flaunts the prestigious Poin?on de Geneve seal of quality. What’s in a name?Accustomed as we are to brands with watch names that run on for miles, Chopard's collections tend to stick to short

From 10 to 25 June 2023, Patek Philippe hosted the largest exhibition ever organized by the manufacture, the Grand Exhibition “Watch Art” Tokyo 2023. Some 60,000 visitors attended what's surely a success for the brand, which was accompanied by the launch of several limited editions, including two technical timepieces making their global debut. An important part of the communication strategy of the brand, these exhibitions allow collectors and simple watch enthusiasts to immerse themselves into the exclusive world of Patek. We're talking with Mr Thierry Stern, President of Patek Philippe, about the importance and purposes of these Grand Exhibitions. After Dubai in 2012, Munich in 2013, London in 2015, New York in 2017 and Singapore in 2019, Patek Philippe chose Tokyo for the sixth of its grand exhibitions across the world. Anonimo Epurato Bronze, Smaller and More Refined (Baselworld 2018) Specs & Price
For those who are familiar with Italian brand Anonimo, you will agree that if the design is easy to recognise, its watches are not what can be referred to as “subtle elegance”. Large, sporty or even military-inspired, Anonimo’s watches are on the tool-ish/instrument side. For Baselworld 2018, a hint of sporty-chic Italian lifestyle will appear in the collection, with the new?Anonimo Epurato. Smaller, more refined but still very Florentine, meet the brand’s chic new timepiece.Anonimo was created in Florence, back in 1997.?If the history, the design or the inspiration behind its watches feel familiar, it is simply because it was created on the ashes of another brand, Panerai. In 1997, Richemont bought Panerai and decided to relocate the production from Florence to Neuchatel. Yet, some of the ex-employees didn't move and they started the creation of a brand named Anonimo (anonymous in Italian). The production was focused on diving watches designed by the military e
