With the Hamilton Khaki Pilot GMT Automatic, the look is kept purely functional. The watch features a 44 mm case with a blacked-out face, and Arabic numerals (time markers) decorating the edges of the bezel. Complementing that, is the Automatic ETA 2893-1 movement which keeps the time up-to-date.

VIDEO - The Seamaster Chronicles - Part 2, How the Omega Seamaster Became an Icon?
Last week, we launched our new video project in association with Omega, “The Seamaster Chronicles“, which you’ve probably guessed, takes a deep dive into the world of the Omega Seamaster. This follows our other project focussed on the Moonwatch,?the Speedmaster Chronicles. In our first instalment of the “The Seamaster Chronicles”, we took a close look at the history of the Omega Seamaster, a watch born on the foundations of the military watches delivered to the Royal Air Force, a watch that evolved to become an entire collection of elegant or rugged sports watches. A “war-tested” watch commercialised as a “child of peace”. Today, we’re proud to introduce the second part of?“The Seamaster Chronicles”, in which we explore how it attained its iconic status. In this second instalment, our guest speakers are none other than President and CEO of Omega, Raynald Aeschlimann, and Auctioneer Thomas Perazzi from Phillips. In th
In-Depth: The History of the ETA Unitas 6497 and 6498
How do a pair of manually wound, time-only, pocket watch-sized, potentially outdated movements introduced in the 1950s earn a place in our series on significant calibres, alongside the well-known El Primero and Valjoux 7750 chronograph calibre and the omnipresent automatic ETA 2824 and 2892? Several factors contribute to their importance. Despite seeming unusual today, the large diameter of these movements became a notable advantage during the mechanical renaissance of the 1990s. This era saw the international embrace of larger timepieces, a trend often credited to Panerai, which used the ETA/Unitas 6497 to power its reissues from that decade. The Lepine 6497 and its Savonette version 6498, known for their robustness, reliability, and accuracy, were well-designed and easy to regulate to chronometer standards. The 6497 is the most widely used teaching calibre in watchmaking schools, as it is easy to understand and handle. The versatility and adaptability led to these movements’ ad
Seiko Prospex Diver's 55th Anniversary 1965 Re-Creation SLA037J1 // Review
Seiko’s excellent reputation in the field of dive watches is unquestionable. We’re talking top-tier actor, member of a fine club of influencers that helped shaped what the modern dive watch is today. Yet, on the contrary to some Swiss competitors and their 1953 introductions, Seiko waited for a few more years before taking the plunge. In 1965, the Japanese manufacturer set the tone with an important watch, the “62MAS”, also known as the first professionally oriented dive watch of the brand. This year, Seiko is celebrating 55 years of “professional specifications” (pro-specs… Prospex) dive watches with a trilogy of recreations and today, we go hands-on with “the first”, the Seiko Prospex Diver’s 55th Anniversary 1965 Re-Creation SLA037J1.The 1965 Seiko 6217-8000, a.k.a 62MASKnowing Seiko’s devotion to the professional-specs dive watch, there’s no escaping the background story about the watch that started it all, the
Pre-Baselworld 2016 - Introducing the Oris Artix Skeleton (specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
Most of you may know Oris for their sports watches, with some robust dive watches (like the Aquis), very cool vintage-inspired pieces (e.g. the Divers Sixty Five), highly functional pilot watches (think?Big Crown ProPilot Altimeter) or race-oriented pieces (the?Audi Sport Limited Editions). However, as we have already showed you, Oris also has some interesting dress watches in the collection, and some even featuring?an in-house movement. For Baselworld 2016, the brand will come with a modern dressy piece, featuring a nice automatic skeletonized movement, the?Oris Artix Skeleton. The new?Oris Artix Skeleton is part of a collection composed of rather classical but contemporary watches called Artix – see all the models here. However, if all the other models have some complications – date, moon-phase indicator or a complete calendar – and?a traditional silvery white dial, this new open-worked edition plays more on the modern-side. Visible technical parts, nicely opened bri
Interview with Panerais CEO Jean-Marc Pontroue About Bucherer Collab and Strategy for 2020
Jean-Marc Pontroue was appointed CEO of Panerai in 2016, invigorating the brand with new energy. Change was needed but with a brand like Panerai, whose fame is based on a unique concept (1930s to 1950s military dive watches), evolution can be the enemy. We took the opportunity of the launch of the Panerai Luminor Marina Titanio/DLC Bucherer BLUE in Zurich to sit down with Mr Pontroue and talk about his first 18 months at the head of the brand, his partnership with Bucherer, and what to expect for 2020.“The Luminor was created in 1950… The 70th anniversary of Luminor will be our major theme (for 2020)”Xavier Markl, MONOCHROME – Managing Panerai is one of the most interesting but most difficult challenges for a CEO in the industry! What is your feeling after 18 months at the head of the company?Jean-Marc Pontroue, Panerai – Well, no, it is rather easy instead. So many brands are striving to create iconic products. When I joined Panerai, I was lucky enough to
