Review - Piaget Polo S Chronograph Steel (Specs & Price)
When the Piaget Polo S Chronograph (and time-and-date too) was unveiled last year in New York, the response was divisive to say the least. Many thought it paid too close a homage to certain other iconic steel sports watches, whilst others welcomed this bold move by Piaget to offer some more accessible models. Now, more than a year on, the dust has settled a bit and (presumably) emotions aren't running quite so high, which makes it the perfect time for a hands-on review of the Piaget Polo S Chronograph in steel.I must admit, when I first saw the press photos of the Polo S and the Polo S Chronograph last year, I was not particularly impressed. Whilst certainly a big step for Piaget design wise, the watches seemed to fall short of the mark, especially given that the accompanying marketing hype was all about leading rather than following. That said, I do feel that at the time it was difficult to form an impartial opinion, particularly given the endless stream of critical feedback on social
Introducing: The Neo Kung Orienta Chronograph
A new name on the independent watchmaking firmament arises, as Chinese watchmaker Neo Kung presents his Orienta. With experience working for the Seagull and Shanghai movement manufacturers, Neo Kung has a deep understanding of what it takes to build a movement. And by the looks of it, he knows what he’s doing! His Orienta has a movement based on the enigmatic Venus 175 calibre, a rather pleasing vintage appeal and a subtle touch of Chinese design and styling that will surely cross borders and excite enthusiasts the world over.Chinese watchmaking is still often stigmatised. And yes, while there are plenty of (very) questionable watches coming from China, several brands and watchmakers are definitely worth the time and effort. To the point even that they’re certainly worth spending money on! Names like Celadon HH, Qin Gang, Logan Kuan Rao and Atelier Wen are at the forefront of high-end or luxury watchmaking that can rival the Swiss. Maybe not by volume, but certainly by craf
First Look: Summer Colours for the Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton
Rado is synonymous with high-tech ceramic, which is used to great effect on its sleek, geometric designs and vintage models alike. Rado's 1962 Captain Cook dive watch, resurrected in 2017, was given a high-tech plasma ceramic makeover in 2021. Not only did it feature a ceramic case and bracelet, but its dial was also skeletonised to reveal the movement. In this same vein, Rado releases a duet of Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton?models with vibrant coloured bezels for some fun in the sun. The new Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton models come in 43mm navy blue ceramic cases with a height of 14.6mm, a ceramic screw-down crown and 300m water-resistance. Sharing identical specs to these recent iterations – in black, olive green, and a matte blue iteration – the new models inject a bold rush of colour into their bezels.
