Hands-on with the 2016 edition of the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin, with new face (live pics, specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
This 2016 edition of the SIHH has been very productive for A. Lange & Sohne (again…). We’ve seen the stunning (yes, that’s an understatement) Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon, the poetical and kind of magical Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase Lumen, the very elegant and balanced Saxonia Moon Phase or the highly technical Richard Lange Jumping Seconds. Clearly, the Saxonian Manufacture didn’t disappoint this year. Besides these proper novelties, there was also an update of an existing watch introduced, a watch that may not be the most coveted creation of Lange but one that really has charm and a discrete elegance, the?A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin, which?now features a new face.As said in the introduction, the?A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia Thin isn’t a proper novelty, as the previous edition of this watch was?introduced at the SIHH 2011, as you can see here, in our dedicated article. However, we have to remind now the 2015 edition of the SIHH, where A. Lange &a
Introducing the Calibre de Cartier Diver with Manufacture Caliber 1904MC - Monochrome Watches
Cartier has just unveiled their very first dive watch! OK some of you might argue Cartier already have a “dive watch” in their collection, the Pasha. However the Pasha is not a true dive watch, and certainly not by today’s standards. The new Calibre de Cartier Diver, which will officially be introduced at the SIHH 2014, will be Cartier’s first real dive watch! The new Diver is based on the Calibre de Cartier, which was introduced in 2010. This was also the first Cartier to feature the new in-house movement caliber 1904 MC, which is the same movement they use in the new Calibre de Cartier Diver. A robust movement, with two main spring barrels, delivering 48 hours of power reserve. You might think that's not much for two main spring barrels, however this was done intentionally to get as little fluctuation in the main spring torque as possible, so the chronometric rates are as stable as possible. In laymen language it's a very good movement! Ad - Scroll t
Laurent Ferrier Bridge One - In the Mood for Retro - Monochrome Watches
In a radical departure from the smooth, pebble-shaped cases we associate with Laurent Ferrier, the Bridge One embraces a new geometry marked by flowing rectangular lines with rounded edges and a strong Art Deco vibe. The movement, shaped to match the case, is also new and fitted with a traditional Swiss lever escapement as opposed to the natural escapement featured on most of LF watches. Unveiled during the SIHH 2019, we were able to spend some time with the novel Bridge One.Sources of InspirationThe more you look at the elegant flowing lines of the case, the more complexity you start to detect and the more sources of inspiration you start to spot; which is hardly surprising given the long and distinguished career of master watchmaker Laurent Ferrier.Historic image of the Passerelle de l'Ile in Geneva, one of the sources of inspiration for the new Laurent Ferrier Bridge One.Ostensibly, a wrought-iron bridge that Ferrier could see from his bedroom window as a child inspired the case. Buying Guide - 5 Of The Most Striking Tourbillon Watches of 2019/2020
The Tourbillon is, without doubt, one of the most spectacular and prestigious complications – a must-have in the collection of a respectable watchmaker. Invented to counteract the effects of gravity on the regulating organ of mechanical watches, this now-ubiquitous mechanism has remained long the preserve of a few watchmakers. The past few months have brought their share of new tourbillon watches and here are five great options.Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat 5367PT Blue EnamelWhen thinking about tourbillon watches, Breguet, the inventor of this mechanism, immediately comes to mind. Among the latest creations of the brand, the visually striking combination of blue enamel and platinum ultra-thin tourbillon is unapologetically elegant. 41mm in diameter, the lithe case houses the Calibre 581, an ultra-thin, automatic tourbillon with a peripheral rotor. This superbly hand-decorated movement includes modern solutions with a titanium tourbillon carriage. The escapement and the
Ochs Und Junior Perpetual Calendar, the essence of simplification, a QP with 9 additional parts (specs & price) - Monochrome Watches
If there’s one word?to keep in mind with Ochs Und Junior, it’s simplicity. Usually, simplicity in things?means less attraction (we all love complexity). in watchmaking especially, we want complications. But with Ochs Und Junior, we’re talk about?Ludwig Oechslin, so-to-say the pope of simplicity?in?complications. In fact, simplifying a complication is not a draw. It’s even more complex than doing it with dozens of parts. Besides showing an?intelligence of conception, it even makes a mechanism more reliable and possibly more precise. That’s what the brand did with their annual calendar requiring 3 moving parts (!), or their extremely precise moon-phase with 5 parts. Today, they are doing it again, on the traditional and complex?perpetual calendar. But theirs only have 9 additional parts… The?Ochs Und Junior Perpetual Calendar is the essence of simplification.Traditionally, a perpetual calendar requires, let’s say, about minimum?50 parts, includin
