A Full Month of Power on the Wrist - Hands-On with the A. Lange & Sohne Lange 31 - Monochrome Watches
For the average automatic or hand-wound watch, a power reserve longer than 3 days is already quite comfortable. Yet, some watches can do more… A week? Easy. Over 10 days? It exists. But what if your watch was able to run for a full month, without the need for you to wind it? Clearly, this would be massive – and it would be the same kind of useless necessity that is offered by a Bugatti Chiron and its 1,500bhp engine… Such a powerful watch exists and it’s called the?A. Lange & Sohne Lange 31. And while it is not a proper novelty, the recently introduced white gold/grey dial version is the occasion for us to look back at this monument, and to all the issues that go along! The length of the power reserve on a watch can be seen at first as just another number. Yet, it has to be regarded as something a bit more important than that. While on automatic watches, the length of the power reserve might not be so important at first (as when the watch is worn, it should b
Audemars Royal Oak Tourbillon Extra-Thin RD#3 37mm 26660ST
Imagine the responsibility and challenges of having to produce 50th-anniversary watches to honour the forerunner and undisputed leader of the luxury sports watch. Luckily, Audemars Piguet is not daunted by challenges and has feted its Royal Oak's 50th birthday with standout models like the Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202 with a newly developed movement. A couple of months after the initial euphoria, AP unveiled the first Jumbo ever fitted with a flying tourbillon. Merging the classic design cues of the iconic Jumbo with a new extra-thin flying tourbillon movement (calibre 2968), the 39mm steel case displayed the signature blue petite tapisserie?dial. Given the challenges of developing a new calibre to fit inside the thin 8.1mm case height of the Jumbo, the project was entrusted to AP's Research & Development department to become RD#3. History repeats itself today as AP unveils a second version of its Royal Oak RD#3 in an even smaller 37mm case size with a classic petite tapisserie dial in a
Introducing The New Norqain Adventure Neverest 40mm Line
Norqain and mountain climbing adventures go hand in hand. Founded just three years ago, the logo of this successful independent ?Swiss brand is a mountain peak. Today, Norqain releases the Adventure Neverest Line, a sub-collection in the Adventure family that marks the brand's charitable partnership with the Butterfly Help Project to support schooling for children in Nepal. Three new models kick-start the partnership and mark the first Adventure models to be fitted with Kenissi manufacture chronometer-rated calibres, a new 40mm case size, increased water-resistance, the removal of the date window and a screw-down crown. The textured white dial of the Neverest Glacier model replicates the phenomenon of glacier crevasses on the most dangerous stage of the ascent to the summit of Mount Everest.Brief BackgroundIt's encouraging to see how far this independent family-run company has ascended in such a short period of time, but you could say that it had a good head start. Every watch enthusiast inevitably reaches a point of overload once or twice in their horological journey, when they look at their watch box and feel more apathy than excitement. A feeling of “Do I really need this many watches?” And “Wouldn't life be simpler if I had only one” Granted, that feeling usually passes and we get right back to the all-encompassing madness, but it's a fun thought exercise while it lasts. Watch brands seem to know that we want this, at least?in theory. There is no shortage of marketing-speak out there, subtly hinting that THIS is the one, this watch can do it all, come and play! And today, this watch is the H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds Swiss Mad Red.H. Moser & Cie. is a brand most of you are familiar with, famous for their colourful and brilliant dials and irreverent sense of humour. First Look: The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Nonantieme Enamel
Since 1991, Jaeger-LeCoultre has marked each new decade of the Reverso with a special edition, beginning with the Soixantieme, which celebrated the model's 60th anniversary. Introduced in 1931, the Reverso remained a time-only watch until this milestone edition became the first to feature complications. A decade later, the Septantieme showcased the brand's expertise in movement manufacturing and aesthetic design. It was the first Reverso to feature an extra-large case, an 8-day power reserve, and a beautifully finished white gold movement visible through the reverse side. Fast forward to 2021, the Reverso Nonantieme marked the collection's 90th anniversary, and this year, it returns in a striking new variation, the Reverso Tribute Nonantieme Enamel.?This newest edition of the Reverso Tribute Nonantieme maintains the same 49.4mm x 29.9mm x 11.72mm pink gold case, adorned with the signature gadroons above and below the dial.
