Taking a look at the brilliant GTO Engineering California Spyder Revival
What if I told you, you can own one of the most desired and rare Ferrari convertibles ever made, for a fraction of what it's actually worth? You'd be having a laugh, right? Or at least think I was a bit out there. But truth be told there is a way to own a Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder SWB for the measly sum of 1 million USD. And that, my fellow Petrolheads, is a bargain considering the value of an actual Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder SWB is about 16 times that. How is this possible? Through an as close to perfect as you can get Revival program by UK-based Ferrari specialists GTO Engineering. Now, in all fairness, this intro is to be taken lightly of course. About 99.9% of us will never be able to shell out a million dollars for a car, let alone 18 million for one. That is only something to be considered by the 1 per cent, of the 1 per cent of the very rich. But as the past revival or resto-mod projects we’ve featured have taught us the price usually goes up by quite a margin
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Spider-Man (Video & Live Pics)
Among Switzerland’s elite haute horlogerie brands, Audemars Piguet often stands out for doing things differently and often connects watchmaking to a broader culture. As seen with the Royal Oak, now iconic but totally disruptive when it was created in 1972, the brand has always been a beacon of innovation and creativity that dares to break new ground. In this respect, Audemars Piguet continuously looks beyond traditional watchmaking for inspiration, notably in the realms of pop culture, which offers a unique opportunity to connect the brand to modernity. In 2021, AP entered into a partnership with Marvel Entertainment, unveiling the Royal Oak Concept Black Panther. It is now the turn of one of the most popular superheroes of Marvel to weave his web into a Royal Oak. The second chapter in the Marvel x Audemars Piguet saga is this new Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon Spider-Man.Created in the early 1960s by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Spider-Man is one of the most popular Marvel superhero
The Vintage Corner - The Story of Aquastar Deepstar Dive Chronograph
Aquastar is a very niche brand, specialized in diver's instruments. It is also a rather young brand, in the vintage field, as it was only established in 1962. The brand started supplying watches to Jacques Cousteau's dive team in 1965, and it seems that the brand’s founder, Frederic Robert, working under the umbrella of the JeanRichards Company, was not wrong in his push to create dedicated dive watches, including today's specialized chronograph, the Aquastar Deepstar. It may not be the most practical and functional dive watch ever created, but its visual appeal can't be denied. This is why we'll take a closer look at it, in today's episode of the Vintage Corner. This Aquastar Deepstar diving chronograph was created in an era of new world of exploration. While NASA and the USSR were reaching Space and planning for a moon shot, others were using advanced technology to explore the depths of the oceans on Earth. The rush of technological development in materials, plastics and new all
Hands-on IWC Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar Racing Green IW503005
IWC Schaffhausen's emblematic Big Pilot's Watch collection is of great historical relevance and has evolved from a purely functional piece to more of a statement watch if there ever as one. The very idea of legibility and oversized cases is still very much alive and serves the BP collection well.?This year alone, several new models have been released already, including a smaller time-only model, the Big Pilot 43, a rather cool Top Gun Mojave Desert edition and the incredible Schock Absorber XPL. The latest in line, adding complexity and colours in the process, is the IWC Big Pilot's Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition Racing Green IW503005.When it comes to the Big Pilot’s Watch, a few things are established; an oversized case with a large diamond-shaped crown and a dial as clean and legible as possible. After all, the original Big Pilot's Watch 52 S.C. served a very clear purpose and that spirit hasn't changed much ever since. However, as the very necessity for such a watch has evol
In-Depth - The Ulysse Nardin Freak, 20 years of Watchmaking Innovation
The genius and madness are separated by a very thin line. Weirdos and rebels, people who are different enough, crazy enough, are the ones who change the world. In that respect, the Ulysse Nardin Freak could not be more aptly named. This innovative, disruptive avant-garde masterpiece smashed all conventions and simply changed what's on our wrist todayThe late 1990s were still a time for the renaissance of mechanical watchmaking and the Swiss watch industry hadn't yet fully recover. Back then, very few watchmakers were actually producing movements internally. Most of the industry was sourcing from the same movement manufacturers, ETA for industrial movements, and a few high-end makers such as Frederic Piguet, Lemania, Zenith or Girard-Perregaux, to name a few. Most of the brands were simply happy enough with the renewed interest in mechanical watchmaking Ad - Scroll to continue with article
