Watches NEWS
Editorial: An Analysis of a Struggling Watch Industry, New and Secondary, for the First Half of 2024
Following three consecutive record years for the watch industry in 2021, 2022 and 2023, recovering from a complex situation in 2020 due to the pandemic, the watch industry in 2024 is not sending the same positive signs. Pessimistic notes in brands and groups’ financial reports, contraction of prices on the secondary market, ambient morosity, increasing inventories, decreasing waitlists and reduced speculation (in all fairness, the last two might be a positive outcome)… This is what our ears are catching in the corridors of the watch industry. What is the situation for the first semester of 2024? Let’s have an overview using the latest reports and analytics we have in hand.?Preliminary note: the analysis of the new watch market is based on either the exports of the industry as reported by the Swiss Federation of the Watch Industry (FHS) or on a brand/group’s perspective, with numbers that take into account the so-called sell-in – sales from a brand to a dis
Introducing: The new Smaller, Slimmer Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite
While we won’t do the entire story of the Speedmaster once again here (look here for that), we can quickly talk about a complication that first appeared on this watch in 1985; the moonphase display… For a watch that went on the Moon and that is named the Moonwatch, it’s quite appropriate, don’t you think? There have been multiple variants of the Speedmaster Moonphase, from the original 1980s model to more modern Professional editions with the calibre 1866. More recently, in 2016 to be precise, Omega revamped the concept with a modern Master Chronometer movement and a large 44.25mm case. Now, for 2025, the idea has once more been updated, in a fairly pleasant way. Meet the Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite watches. So what has changed in 2025…? Well, almost everything. Different proportions, new hand-wound movement, new moon complication, dials made from meteorite, new bracelet… In short, it seems like we’re looking at

Recap - The Best Watches Introduced by ORIS in 2021
Looking back at 2021 as Oris must be quite satisfactory since, at least according to us, it has introduced a fair number of very good watches. Of course, it’s mostly about the new Calibre 400 series of movements, developed in-house, but that's not all. Across pretty much all collections in the brand's arsenal, we saw new models with upgraded materials and specifications. And yet, as we kind of expect Oris to do so, each one remained relatively attainable. Oris knows where its strengths lie and show skill in using that. Here is our selection of the best new watches introduced in 2021 by ORIS.Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Calibre 403In constant production for over 80 years, the Big Crown Pointer Date is one of the true cornerstone collections for Oris. Last year Oris decided to update its prolific Big Crown Pointer Date with its new in-house Calibre 403 automatic movement. Following on the 2021 Holstein Limited Edition, it now becomes a permanent member of the family. The case has be
Introducing The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph (Live Pics & Price)
Roger Dubuis has developed serious connections with the automotive world. Yet, for quite a while now, the brand's collections did not include a chronograph, the quintessential motor racing complication. This is all the more surprising as Roger Dubuis has a substantial history when it comes to chronographs – from their early, classic Lemania-based chronographs to the more recent calibre RD580 or RD680. On the occasion of the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2023, Roger Dubuis unveils the Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph, a model inspired by supercar engineering and infused with what the brand calls hyper horology: bold, expressive and technical watchmaking! The new flyback chronograph calibre RD780 is a concentrate of the brand's expertise: a bold design supported by high-end technical options and expert craftsmanship. In characteristic Roger Dubuis style, the mechanics had to be exposed to become an integral part of the design. The RD780 is a rare example of a dial-side chronograph
