Buying Guide: Bold And Modern Openworked Watches
Lovers of complex mechanical watchmaking can rejoice with this week’s Buying Guide selection, as all of the watches on show come with openworked dials and movements. Not content with the most classical styles of skeletonization, we’ve opted for a range of contemporary and bold watches instead. On top of that, they reveal their most intricate details while also packing a level of innovation and style rivalled by few! With that in mind, let’s dive straight in!H. Moser & Cie Streamliner tourbillon skeletonH. Moser’s groovy Streamliner is a personal favourite of ours, and the Tourbillon Skeleton could very well be the best iteration to date. The soothing curves of the case and integrated bracelet blend seamlessly with the complex openworked mechanics. The whole watch is a play of monotone greys with subtle touches of gold for the hands and markers. The tourbillon escapement dominates the bottom half, and around the back, the gold-coloured skeleton rotor really s
Editorial: The Rise In Price of the Luxury Sports Watches in 2023
Few watch categories have seen such a surge in popularity as the luxury sports watch (or integrated watch design) over the past years. Demand has skyrocketed over the years, driven by iconic models, but now numerous new players Once limited to higher-end brands, the market has expanded with more affordable options. Last year, we looked at the prices of the steel luxury sports watches listing some of the main options. Brand and product positioning is sometimes a battle for the mind of the consumer While we will not again discuss the notion of price itself here, we have updated our charts, showing how the offer has expanded and how brands position themselves in this ultra-disputed category. For reference – The state of the luxury sports watch market in 2022 (Swiss retail prices), with the most important models listed (take into account the watches with * which are titanium)The watches listed in the chart above are a selection of automatic two- or three-hand models manufactured in st
Six of the best new dive watches of the year, so far.
The dive watch. The embodiment of a product that is over-engineered for what most owners will use it for yet remains ever so popular. Admittedly, even I own dive watches that never see any action close to the limits of either of them. But there is a thought of comfort to put one on and go about your business care-free, knowing your watch will do its job and does it well. And year after year, new dive watches are presented, from affordable to luxury to high-end. And even though it’s still only March, we’ve seen a fair share of very cool, very capable new divers. And here’s six of the best of 2022… so far that is.Longines Legend DiverThe Longines Legend Diver is a watch that defines the look of the compressor-style diver (even though technically, it isn't one). It's a watch that needs little introduction amongst enthusiasts and collectors. Ever since it was reintroduced by Longines, we've seen multiple new editions with bold, fresh new colours and materials like b
Lang & Heyne Hektor Sports Watch With Integrated Bracelet
We’ve said it repeatedly over and over here, at MONOCHROME… The sports watch with integrated bracelet is simply the hottest, most desirable and most (commercially) successful watch category these days. Without surprise, we’ve seen dozens of brands entering the genre, from accessible luxury powerhouses to small independent watchmakers. We can’t blame them, as they are simply answering the demand for such watches. And since the idea seems to be working most of the time, there will be even more newcomers. The latest in line is one that we clearly didn’t expect… A Dresden-based brand specialised in refined and classic watches. Here’s the new Lang & Heyne Hektor. When you think about Lang & Heyne, you might have this kind of watch in mind. Classic, refined, slightly old-school, typically German timepieces of rare execution, with ultra-decorated handmade movements, once again built in a typical Saxon way. Based in Dresd
