Interview: A Business-Oriented Conversation with Edouard Meylan, CEO of H. Moser & Cie
MELB, does that mean anything to you? The acronym hides a discreet family group, active in various high-added-value fields including, of course, watchmaking. However, one of its components is well-known, through its collections: Endeavour, Streamliner, and Pioneer to name just three. We are talking about H. Moser & Cie and MeylanEdouardLeonoreBertrand (MELB), founded by the former CEO of Audemars Piguet (until 2008), Georges-Henri Meylan, alongside his three children. The patriarch is the Chairman of the holding company, which has several strings to its bow. We're meeting with Edouard Meylan, CEO of H. Moser & Cie, on the sidelines of the presentation of the Geneva Watch Days in Zurich a couple of weeks ago.Pascal Brandt, MONOCHROME – What does MELB Holding represent, which is rarely talked about?Edouard Meylan – The origins of MELB Holding date back to its foundation in 2006. My father is its Chairman. Our activities are based on three pillars, starting with luxury
Delma Cayman Automatic Dive Watch Review / Value Proposition
Earlier this year, Delma, the independent family-owned Swiss brand renowned for its deep dive watches, introduced the Cayman collection. A vintage-inspired diver, the Delma Cayman Automatic, like the reptile it is named after, is an amphibious watch as happy in the water as out. Water-resistant to 500m, retro 1970s styling, a Swiss automatic movement, three dial and bezel colours and multiple strap choices, all for around EUR 1,000, it's fair to say that Delma has joined the market of vintage-inspired dive watches with a vengeance.? A saturated dive marketVintage divers are the it' watches of the moment and brands like Oris, Longines, Seiko, Tudor, Doxa, Blancpain and even unexpected players like Glashutte Original, which managed to unearth a 1969 diver in its archives, are all in the market for this genre. The phenomenon of vintage divers, like the phenomenon of blue dials shows no signs of abating. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Hands-On - The 2022 TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition
During Watches and Wonders 2022, TAG Heuer has unveiled its second chronograph stemming from its partnership with Porsche. This partnership between the two brands was announced in 2021 and resulted from an entwined history marked by an obsession with speed and motorsports. Following the first classic stainless steel version, the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche is back in a black-and-yellow limited edition for 2022.?First and foremost, the brands have in common the Carrera name that was incarnated by Jack Heuer's 1963 chronograph and some of the carmaker's most powerful creations. In particular, both Jack Heuer and Ferry Porsche were fascinated by La Carrera Panamericana, a perilous endurance race staged in Mexico that ended up inspiring the name of Jack Heuer's chronograph and the top-performing sports cars produced by Porsche. A Technical Perspective - Understanding the Concept of the Multiple-Regulator Watches
The presence of one single heart is ingrained in our idea of biology and extended conceptually to watchmaking. In order to live – or to indicate the time accurately – one only needs a single beating heart. But there are a few creatures with multiple hearts. And more and more watches come with multiple regulators – for different reasons. It is time to understand what multiple regulating organs can add to a watch. The regulating organ of a watch is often considered as its heart. The energy stored in the barrel is released in discreet bursts by the regulator that defines the speed at which the watch runs. The regulator comprises the escapement and the balance wheel, two elements working in conjunction. The escapement gives impulses to the balance. In return, the escapement is regulated by the balance wheel. The vast majority of mechanical watches operate according to the same principle. One energy source, one gear-train and one regulator. Some watches, however, use multipl
