Introducing: The Audemars ROO Chronograph End of Days Revival 26420CE
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Royal Oak Offshore a.k.a. The Beast, and we have already seen several new models launched by the brand from Le Brassus to celebrate the event, like the ROO Chronograph 43mm Black Ceramic and Yellow Gold, or the stunning Black Ceramic Beast. The latest edition of the ROO is based on this recent one but is dressed differently as it takes you back to the 1990s and the End of Days, the reference 25770SN. The new model highlights the importance of that limited edition watch released in 1999 in collaboration with Arnold Schwarzenegger, as the legendary timepiece inspires its attire.End of Days is not a film you should have spent your time watching back in 1999, and it certainly is not worth it now. The leading role that Arnold Schwarzenegger was cast for is said to have been written for Tom Cruise, who went on to work on Magnolia instead (good for you, Tom!). Liv Tyler and Kate Winslet rejected offers as Arnie's female counterpart. Sam Raimi and Gu
SIHH 2017 - Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra Thin 15202 Yellow Gold (Price)
The?Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is an icon born in 1972 from?the pencil of a certain Gerald Genta. It was notable for several reasons – it was the world’s first luxury sports watch, it was imposing, yet impressively thin and, despite being the most expensive watch of its type on the market, it was available only in stainless steel. Collectors had to wait until 1977 to see this ?mini-masterpiece dressed in?precious metal (an idea that for long has been rather antinomic with the whole Royal Oak concept).?For SIHH 2017 and, to mark the 40th anniversary of the first precious metal Royal Oaks,?Audemars Piguet introduces a new series of the splendid?Royal Oak Extra Thin Ref. 15202 in yellow gold. The?Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra Thin – known under the reference 15202 – is no stranger to the world of watch aficionados. Hands-On: A True Surprise of Only Watch 2023, The Furlan Marri Secular Perpetual Calendar
You probably know?Furlan Marri?already. Founded in 2021 by Andrea Furlan (Swiss industrial designer) and Hamad Al Marri (watch collector and artist from the Middle East), it started as a crowdfunded project on Kickstarter. The first watch, a handsome vintage-inspired mechaquartz chronograph, made quite some noise. The second model, an automatic time-only this time, gathered some attention again with its cool design. But up until now, we’ve been looking at carefully designed watches for sure, but in an accessible price range. Things are changing and the two men have been moving faster than anyone imagined. Even if still a unique prototype offered for charity auction Only Watch 2023, the next watch is playing in a far higher category.?Co-developed with Dominique Renaud and Julien Tixier, we’re talking about?an ultra-simplified, modular secular perpetual calendar, with a?single adjustment once every 400 years. Now that’s what we call a surprising move.?Secular calendar
Horage Tourbillon 1, Most Accessible Swiss-Made Tourbillon (Specs & Price)
Just a few years ago, TAG Heuer shocked the industry with the Carrera Heuer-02T Chronograph, the “cheapest” Swiss tourbillon at the time. Just shy of CHF 15,000, nothing outside of the Asian market could touch it. Borrowing from the Carrera Heuer-01 case, it was sporty and quite controversial. Let's say a few Swiss giants weren't too pleased by the low price. Horage, a ten-year-old brand based in Biel, Switzerland, has now undercut TAG Heuer by almost CHF 8,000 with the Tourbillon 1. What is this sorcery, you ask? Let's take a closer look.?How is it possible to produce a Swiss-made flying tourbillon, with the quality expected from the watchmaking capital, for less than half of what TAG Heuer achieved? Technology, experience and ingenuity, coupled with a clever pre-order campaign. The watches are limited to pre-orders with no stock available afterwards, helping to optimize production while directly funding every piece made – a sort of souscription program. This exclusi
