GIVE AWAY: Five Books, Notebooks and Rollerballs by A. Lange & Sohne - Monochrome Watches
Time for the next give-away on Monochrome to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and this time we can give away 5 sets from A. Lange & Sohne. The beautiful German watch brand, who just launched the renewed Lange 1 Moonphase Day/Night, ?provided us with 5 x the book “Sign of the Times”, 5 x a Lange notebook and 5 rollerballs.?The book, written by Christoph Scheuring, is a historic novel inspired by the fascinating personality of Saxony's watchmaking pioneer, Ferdinand Adolph Lange. Quite a few books already covered his accomplishments, however little has been known about the first few years of his life so far. Lange grew up with foster parents who encouraged him in his ambitions and allowed him to study at the newly founded Royal Technical College, the precursor of what is now the University of Dresden. There, Lange was able to develop his scientific talents. Johann Christian Friedrich Gutkaes, who was later appointed clockmaker to the court, quickly recognised the youngster
Hands-On - Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 37mm 15550ST
Refreshing a watch that has marked the identity of a brand for fifty years, which saved the brand from the onslaught of quartz in the 1970s and gave birth to an entirely new genre known as the luxury sports watch, is a delicate balancing act. One too many tweaks and you risk altering its gene pool; no change at all, and you perpetuate a dinosaur. As our readers know, Gerald Genta’s 1972 luxury stainless steel sports watch, christened the Royal Oak, marked a before and after in watch design, spawning one of the most competitive segments in the watch market today. Although the stars of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of the Royal Oak were the?RO Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202 and the Openworked 16204, the brand announced that the range of permanent Royal Oaks would also be updated throughout 2022, which includes this RO Selfwinding 37mm with a new automatic movement. As you will discover, the facelift in no way alters the physiognomy of Genta’s dynamic design but refines its silhou

One of the most remarkable news this year is the end of Collection Privee?Cartier Paris. This remarkable collection of timelessly designed wristwatches will be replaced by the bigger and bolder Fine Watchmaking Collection.?This year the special editions known as ‘Collection Privee Cartier Paris’ or CPCP, and known for the word ‘Paris’ on the dial, will seize to be produced. If you want more information about this collection than I can recommend the website Troisanneaux.com?that is entirely dedicated to Cartier’s mechanical wristwatches.Despite this fact, Cartier comes with a very strong line-up this year. Most models are based on the Tank Americain and the Santos 100 and are rather complicated. Here are my favourites ?? Introducing the Montblanc Meisterstuck Heritage Gold Collection - Monochrome Watches
In January of this year Montblanc introduced an entirely new collection, called the Montblanc Meisterstuck Heritage collection. This collection, with its classic design codes, is the first to incorporate everything that Montblanc as a watch brand has to offer. From very affordable and classically styled time-only, to the most affordable perpetual calendar on the market, to the Pulsograph with its stunning Villeret-made movement. Now they?add the Montblanc Meisterstuck Heritage Gold collection, with full gold watches starting just north of € 6k.During the exclusive Genevan watch show in January, everyone was amazed – more likely shocked – by the price of the Montblanc Meisterstuck Heritage Perpetual Calendar. And even the Meisterstuck Heritage Pulsograph is (relatively speaking) a bargain at € 27k. Now Montblanc adds several 39mm gold models to the Meisterstuck Heritage collection and again the price immediately catches the attention. Ad - Scroll to continue with
Introducing the Vacheron Constantin Overseas now in UltraMarine Blue Limited Editions - Specs & Price - Monochrome-Watches
‘Blue is the new black’… For approximately 2 to 3 years now, we’ve seen many watches?launched?with a blue dial, watches from every brand, every price range and for every use. Blue is indeed a big trend (we’re not complaining) but this colour doesn’t fit every timepieces. However, there is one that we know to be superb with this tint: the Vacheron Constantin Overseas – as seen with the chronograph edition. Now Vacheron Constantin comes with limited editions of the Overseas Time-Date and Dual-Time with this same blue dial.?The Vacheron Constantin Overseas is one of the few watches that can properly be called a high-end sports watch, meaning a timepiece that combine a real sporty feeling and strong aesthetics with a luxurious finish, a high-end movement and the capability to be worn also with a suit and tie. The Overseas was launched in?1996, with a strong design that showed a bezel shaped like the Maltese cross, the emblem of the brand.?The Vache
