The IWC Portofino IW356506 has a very smart and polished look to it. The matte black dial is the first thing that catches your attention, and it is enhanced by the silver-toned index markers and Roman numerals that are set on the dial. In addition, the Milanese bracelet, which is crafted from stainless steel subtly adds to the composition of the piece proving the element of grace to it.

Buying Guide - The Best Vintage Re-Edition Watches of 2022
Although it was a trend that started more than ten years ago, who would have imagined that re-editions of glorious models of the past and vintage-inspired watches would still be a hot topic in 2022? But it is a reality: retro-styled watches, vintage reissues and old-school design language are still staples in brand collections across the board. There are many ways to produce vintage-inspired models; however, while some are genuinely fascinating, many fail to find the right balance between modern watchmaking and a retro look. With this in mind, and to mark the end of a year rich in new models, we’ve selected what we think were the best vintage re-edition watches presented in 2022.?Note: please share your favourite vintage-inspired models of 2022 in the comment section at the end of this article.Cartier Pebble Re-EditionWe start this selection of vintage-inspired watches with a bit of a controversial model… There’s a lot to like regarding the design of the Cartier Pebbl
Explore the History of Watches from 1700 to Now, With Christie's Education
While we would highly recommend you only read MONOCHROME when it comes to learning about the world of watches (we are our own best advocates), there are many sources around to help up your horological game. The latest on the market has been launched by none other than prominent auction house Christie’s and its “education” department. Launching this September is a new online course on the History of Watches 1700 to Now, presented by Dr Andrew Hildreth, a leading independent watch consultant.Being a real watch collector/enthusiast shouldn’t only mean having the bank account to acquire the watches. As for every passion, knowledge is beneficial and can help you grow as a more seasoned collector – and to a certain extent, I’d say that knowing the watch world, its history and its industry is a must for anyone seeking to become a collector. Knowledge will increase your passion and will help acquire watches that suit you better. For this reason, we’ve a
Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin (Live Pics, Specs & Price)
Slim, sophisticated and with just the right hint of complexity, the new Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin is a collector's dream. Recently unveiled at Baselworld 2019, it's the first calibre equipped with a flying tourbillon from the Manufacture. Cased up in 100% ethically sourced Fairmined gold, it cuts a striking figure on the wrist. We managed to get our hands on one and were impressed by its perfect proportions and high-level finishing, the latter of which earned this model the Geneva Seal. Read on for a closer look at this handsome timepiece. When it comes to finding a really nice dress watch, often the challenge is the dimensions. There is no shortage of attractive dials but sometimes case size and finishing leave a little (or a lot) to be desired. Thankfully that is most certainly not the case with the new Chopard L.U.C Flying T Twin. In fact, I would almost go as far to say that its proportions are close to perfect. TAG Heuer and Abarth partner with the Abarth 595 Competizione by TAG Heuer and a dedicated Carrera - Monochrome Watches
Abarth, the customization department of Fiat that some of you may know for the funky 1970s cars and numeral victories in rally, is about to launch a new limited edition of its fastest, funniest car, the?Abarth 595 Competition resulting here from a partnership with TAG Heuer. This?Abarth 595 Competizione by TAG Heuer features a specific matte grey wrapping, 17″ racing wheels, Brembo brakes and racing seats in Alcantara… Wait, is Monochrome-Watches turning into a car magazine?… No worries, the main point of interest here concerns what will be delivered with the car, a specific limited edition watch, the TAG Heuer Carrera Abarth 595 Competizione. Why is this partnership so cool? Usually, watches associated to cars are of two types. The first ones are made on request of the brand and sold directly by the car manufacture, like the not-so-cheap quartz Ferrari watches, sold on their own website or BMW watches sold at the car dealer. The other types are watches made by watch m
Atelier de Chronometrie AdC #5 (Specs & Price)
If there’s one thing I love about my job is to discover new watch brands. I’m always stunned by the level of creativity infused by independent watchmakers, from the Sci-Fi creations of Urwerk or the ultra-classic propositions of Laurent Ferrier (who can do nice things together…) One brand we recently discovered at MONOCHROME cumulates quite some intriguing specificities. It isn’t Swiss, but it makes things in an ultra-traditional way, whether for the design or the manufacturing process, and it’s all about one-off pieces. This brand is?Atelier de Chronometrie and their latest creation is the AdC #5, which brings back to present times the superb 1940s design and mechanics.BackgroundThe philosophy of?Atelier de Chronometrie is to create one-off watches with the pure aesthetics of the 1930s and 1940s, in a package that is not infused with modernism. Behind this brand, there’s no idea of vintage inspiration or reeditions of glorious models with modern mec
