IWC Ingenieur Automatic ref.3239 Reviewed - Monochrome Watches
In January of this year, IWC introduced an entire new Ingenieur collection. Not just one or two new models; the entire collection was ‘reinvented’. While many of the new Ingenieur models feature all kind of technical innovations, the ref. 3239 Ingenieur Automatic, goes back to its roots. Back to the classic Ingenieur SL ref. 1832 that was designed by Gerald Genta. Will this also become such a classic? It is of course impossible to answer that question, however Monochrome did take a closer look at the Ingenieur Automatic ref. 3239-04 and gave it some serious wrist-time. We cannot predict if it will ever become a classic like its ancestor from the 1970’s, but we can check if all ingredients are present. The new Ingenieur Automatic is? smaller and thinner than any other Ingenieur, well, smaller and thinner than any Ingenieur since the classic SL ref. 1832 designed by Genta. And it wears accordingly, super comfortable. Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Longines Master Collection 190th Anniversary - Hands-On, Price
Longines can proudly flaunt its status as one of the oldest Swiss watch brands. Founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier, Longines celebrates the grand 190th anniversary of the brand with three commemorative pieces from its Master collection. Relying on an unusual mix of contemporary matte textured dials and hyper-classical engraved Breguet numerals, the Master Collection trilogy honours the past and present of the brand with great style. Here is the Longines Master Collection 190th Anniversary.Brief History of LonginesLongines has been airborne – uninterruptedly – since 1832. Surviving this long in any milieu depends a lot on innovation and efficiency and Longines combined both from the start. One of the most innovative ideas was to unite all production processes under one roof, rowing against the tide of the etablissage system where individual components were produced by different families and then assembled and sold by a comptoir, or trading office. By 1867, Longines had become a
Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Enamel Hokusai Amida Falls
In Japanese art and culture, few names resonate as much as Katsushika Hokusai. This 19th-century master artist is well-known beyond Japan’s borders as his fame extends into the Western world as well. Hokusai was one of the rare Japanese craftsmen who elevated woodblock printing, considered a simpler form of art at the time, to a high-end artform. His series of 8 woodblock prints created in 1833 and 1834, all depicting waterfalls found across Japan, is considered to be one of the finest representations of landscapes ever produced. Among this series is The Great Wave off Kanagawa, but also the Amida Falls, which is the topic of choice in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s latest Reverso Tribute.?Using the iconic Reverso concept, JLC has taken the caseback of the Reverso Monoface and turned it into a miniature canvas yet again. This time a miniature reproduction of Hokusai’s woodblock print of the Amida Falls is hand-applied on the closed back side of the reversible case with Grand Feu

Ulysse Nardin Perpetual Calendar GMT Manufacture Boutique Edition - Monochrome Watches
To many collectors, the Perpetual Calendar / Quantieme Perpetuel is the complete timepiece; yes of course there are a few more complex mechanisms, but in terms of the practical, day-to-day functionality of a time and date watch, the perpetual calendar covers all bases. In simplistic terms, it is a watch which, if kept wound, will never need manual intervention and will record time, day, date, month and the year. Ulysse Nardin comes with a new version of its?Perpetual Calendar GMT Manufacture, a platinum watch with blue dial made for its boutiques only.So what? Well, considering the varying number of days in the months, it's a pretty sophisticated feat of micro-engineering to translate that challenge into a mechanical solution so that the date is always corrected without changing it yourself. Then consider that oddity which is the leap year, when once in four years the month of February gets an extra day to balance out the books, so to speak. So we're talking about a function which only
