Weekly Watch Photo - Audemars Piguet Millenary Star Wheel - Monochrome Watches
Again a photo made by GEO, although this time no Cartier. Audemars Piguet made this rare Millenary Star Wheel for the 125th anniversary of the brand and in my opinion one of the most beautiful of this manufacture. It’s almost refreshing to see another timepieces from Audemars Piguet, than the Royal Oak or Royal Oak Offshore collections. Like the Millenary collection, Audemars Piguet does have several more collections that are very appealing and much more elegant than the RO and ROO. Besides the Millenary I also enjoy beautiful esthetics of the Jules Audemars collection and?the Edward Piguet collection (especially the EP chronograph). Earlier I wrote about the Millenary Piano Forte, a
First Look: The new Citizen Series 8 890 Mechanical Sports Watch (Incl. video)
For most watch enthusiasts, Citizen is probably best known for its wide range of affordable quartz, solar-powered and mechanical watches. Watches like the Promaster series, for instance, have been fan-favourite models for years. More recently, the Tsuyosa collection made quite an impact for its honest yet compelling proposition. There is one collection that, however, delivers much more, the Citizen Series 8, which could be considered the brand’s accessible luxury range. And a new member has just arrived, a contemporary and robust sports watch with integrated design, the Citizen Series 8 890 Mechanical Models.?Citizen has much more to offer than just its entry-level collections. Surely, the Promaster and Tsuyosa watches are popular (and for objective reasons) but the Japanese watchmaker has long demonstrated stronger capacities. Remember, Citizen is what we call a vertically integrated manufacture, meaning that it basically does everything in-house. From cases to dials, lab-grown
IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Moon & Tide IW344001 (Price)
The IWC Portugieser was born in 1939 following a request from two Portuguese navigators and businessmen – Rodrigues and Teixeira – who wanted the precision of a marine chronometer in a wristwatch format. No need to say that this iconic IWC collection has strong ties to the nautical world. And to celebrate these roots, IWC is unveiling a new model today with an unprecedented complication that couldn’t be more appropriate: a tide indication. Encased in a sporty and large case, meet the new IWC Portugieser Yacht Club Moon & Tide.?Introduced in 2010, the IWC Portugieser Yacht Club is a sports model in this rather elegant collection, with its nautical, yachting, regatta-ready note. More robust, larger, a bit more rugged and bulky, it has mostly favoured one complication until now, the chronograph – a world timer has also been available in the past. A versatile watch, capable of timing a sailing race but also at ease with a drink at the marina. In addition to the
Introducing The 8 New Watches Of The Omega Seamaster 75th Anniversary Summer Blue Collection (Live Pics)
Omega, as a brand, has an incredibly long and rich history. When it comes to their watches, one can easily name models such as the Speedmaster or the Constellation. Yet, the watch collection with the longest production run is the Seamaster. Launched in 1948, to mark the 100th anniversary of the brand, the Omega Seamaster was based upon designs made for the British Royal Navy, but even though its technology was war-tested, it remained a child of peace. And a watch that has always been associated with water-resistance and, soon after its introduction 75th years ago, the exploration of the seas. And since the watch celebrates three-quarter of century of existence this year, it is time for Omega to release a special anniversary collection, with 7 classic Seamaster models rendered in a new Summer Blue gradient tone, but it also marks the return of an emblematic watch, the mighty Seamaster Ploprof.?Quick historical recapThe Omega Seamaster was born on the expertise that Omega gained with wat
Machiel Hulsman Redefines "Bespoke" - Meet the First Entirely Handmade Dutch Wristwatch - Monochrome Watches
I’m thrilled to announce this news. Machiel Hulsman, former IT consultant turned watchmaker, has created the very first entirely handmade wristwatch from the Netherlands. We have the legacy of Christiaan Huygens, the inventor of the pendulum clock, Christiaan van der Klaauw, a watch and clockmaker who created the smallest planetarium (in a wristwatch), and the horological brothers Bart and Tim Gronefeld, who have won prestigious GPHG prizes on two occasions. And now, finally, a watch entirely made in the Netherlands. Five years ago Hulsman quit his job and started making his first wristwatch. From scratch! No existing movement, no third-party parts, everything is made in his own small atelier by hand. In these five years, he has learned everything about watchmaking and completed the first fully Dutch handmade wristwatch, the Marie-Elise.When I started MONOCHROME, more than ten years ago, the Netherlands felt like a watchmaking desert. High-end watchmaking was not something you as
