A. Lange & Sohne Triple Split - Hands-On Review (Specs & Price)
In the watchmaking world, there is the chronograph complication – in itself a complex type of movement that is hard to develop and to assemble. Then, there is the flyback chronograph, allowing for an instant reset-start of the timing session. And for years, right at the top of the food chain was the Split Seconds or rattrapante chronograph – the ultimate version of the stopwatch. That was the status quo until A. Lange & Sohne came on the market with?a watch nicknamed by collectors the “Mighty Double Split” or the “uber-Chronograph“, a timepiece with split seconds and split minutes. This year, at the SIHH 2018, A. Lange & Sohne presented the Triple Split, the “mighter than mighty” version of its rattrapante chronograph.?One watch to rule them all…Introductory note…The A. Lange & Sohne?Triple Split is a pure demonstration of desirable inutility…Having a watch of these characteristics in your hands or on your wr
Weekly Watch Photo - Audemars Piguet Millenary Star Wheel - Monochrome Watches
Again a photo made by GEO, although this time no Cartier. Audemars Piguet made this rare Millenary Star Wheel for the 125th anniversary of the brand and in my opinion one of the most beautiful of this manufacture. It’s almost refreshing to see another timepieces from Audemars Piguet, than the Royal Oak or Royal Oak Offshore collections. Like the Millenary collection, Audemars Piguet does have several more collections that are very appealing and much more elegant than the RO and ROO. Besides the Millenary I also enjoy beautiful esthetics of the Jules Audemars collection and?the Edward Piguet collection (especially the EP chronograph). Earlier I wrote about the Millenary Piano Forte, a
Retrospective - All the Record-Breaking Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Models
It’s been seven years in the making so far, but we're pretty sure it won’t end where it is right now. This year marked the seventh record-breaking release by Bvlgari, with the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar, the world's thinnest QP. But where did it actually start? We take a little trip down memory lane and go through all the groundbreaking, record-setting models, from the very first down to the lastest.Ultra-thin watchmaking is a complication in itself, especially when it comes to the marginal sizes we're talking about. Several brands are renowned for their work in the field of ultra-thin watches. Piaget, Jaeger LeCoultre and Audemars Piguet for instance, all have a long-standing relationship with the concept of trying to build the slimmest possible?watches. Old school - Glashutte Original Sport Chronograph - Monochrome Watches
It is safe to say that in the 1990's the Swiss had the monopoly when it came to high-end sport chronographs with a manufacture movement. However, that was about to change, at least a little bit, when Glashutte Original introduced their Sport Chronograph, proudly made in Germany!Glashutte Original shared much of the same faith as Lange & Sohne and Muhle. After WWII they where hidden from the eye of the world behind the Iron Curtain, making watches (if any at all) that where solid but could hardly live up to the? capitalistic glory these companies once knew. The fall of the Berlin Wall brought them back to life and former glory. Glashutte Original originates from the VEB Glashutter Uhrenbetriebe, often better known as GUB (Glashutter Uhrenbetriebe), which was the result of a large merger in 1951 that included basically all the watch related industry in Glashutte. In 1990 this became Glashutter Uhrenbetrieb GmbH that in 1994 was purchased by Heinz W. Pfeifer and in 2000 joined the Swa
Hands-On - Seiko Prospex Captain Willard SPB151-SPB153 (Specs Price)
There is more than one icon at Seiko… Far more. Not surprisingly, most of them are part of the Prospex collection and relate to the world of divers. Think 62Mas, Hi-Beat 300m and Tuna Professional (all of them recently re-created). And there’s the ‘Turtle’, the watch known under the reference 6105, a watch that has defined Seiko’s modern and accessible dive watch… and the watch that was worn in legendary 1979 movie Apocalypse Now. And today, the ‘Captain Willard’ could be yours, with the new SPB151 and SPB153.Left: SPB151, black dial/bezel on steel bracelet. Right: SPB153, olive green dial/bezel on silicone strapIt isn’t the first time we see a re-edition of the 1970s Seiko ‘Turtle’ 6105. In fact, it is widely available in a modern interpretation with the Prospex Automatic Diver SRP series. Much more accurate was the watch launched at Baselworld 2019, the Seiko 1970 Diver's Re-Creation SLA033. Superbly executed, manufact
