Introducing the Arnold & Son Longitude Titanium Sports-Integrated Collection
No brand, it seems, is immune to the allure of the luxury sports watch, sporty-chic watches with integrated bracelets. The latest brand to dip its toe into the highly infested luxury sports watch waters is Arnold & Son, which introduces its first integrated sports watch at Watches and Wonders 2024. Christened the Longitude in honour of John Arnold’s historical marine chronometers, the layout of the first model echoes these historical pieces with its power reserve display at noon and small seconds at 6 o’clock. Not only does the layout evoke the marine chronometers of its famous ancestor, but the new automatic movement is a COSC-certified chronometer. While luxury sports watches have long been the domain of high-end watch brands, – with the Royal Oak, the Nautilus and the Overseas or VC 222, and the Laureato being the main names to come to mind – many high-end independent watchmakers have taken on the challenge – names like Czapek with its Antarctique, L
IWC Pilots Watch Chronograph Edition AMG IW377903 (Specs & Price)
By now you're well aware that the MONOCHROME team is not only passionate about watches (well, duh!) but also has a thing for everything car-related. Our weekly column ??The Petrolhead Corner?? is where we let our hair down and put our feet up for a bit of fun and games. Yet, when both worlds collide we take notice and get that little bit more excited, as you can expect. So today, the latest collaboration between IWC and Mercedes-AMG fuels our automotive needs some more with the IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Edition AMG IW377903.The focus here is on two three-letter abbreviations, both very easily recognized within their own field of expertise; IWC and AMG. While officially known as Mercedes-AMG as it has been an integral part of the Mercedes Group since the early nineties, those three letters are enough to get most gearheads buzzing with excitement. Us included!AMG historyNow we all know that AMG has started out life as a tuning shop by former Mercedes-engineers Werner Aufrecht and Erh
Fortis sends its manufacture calibre Werk 17 into the stratosphere
Field-testing is something we talk about regularly, but we rarely test a watch beyond normal, everyday use. Sure, on occasion, we send a dive watch into the depths of the ocean on the wrist of our resident diver, but that's about it. The (sad) reality is that most testing takes place in boring, sterile laboratories under very specific conditions. Yet, there's something immensely cool about pushing a watch, or movement for that matter, to the extreme in a real-world situation. Case in point, the Werk 17 manufacture chronograph calibre developed by Fortis. Closely tied to aviation and space in its own right, the brand has now sent a batch of this new manufacture movement into the stratosphere to see how the watches hold up.November 2021, Kiruna, Sweden. This location is home to the Esrange Space Centre, a facility used by the Swedish Space Corporation. Initially dedicated to scientific research on the Aurora Borealis phenomenon, it is now also used to launch helium balloons, rockets and
Cvstos Metropolitan PS Skeleton Sapphire (Specs & Price)
Cvstos might not ring a bell with many of our readers but it is a niche watch brand founded in 2005 by Sassoun Sirmakes, son of Vartan Sirmakes of the Franck Muller Watchland Group. Based in Geneva with workshops in Meyrin, Cvstos is renowned for its upmarket watch portfolio built almost entirely around tonneau-shaped cases, a feature that often is compared to Richard Mille watches. Not surprising then to discover that co-founder and designer Antonio Terranova worked at Richard Mille long before joining Sirmakes. The recently introduced Metropolitan collection is one of the most straightforward collections at Cvstos, comprised of time-and-date models with interchangeable bracelets and straps. The skeletonised version of the Metropolitan, introduced earlier this year in a titanium case, is now accompanied by a spectacular model in a sapphire crystal case.See-through caseGiven the hardness of sapphire crystal, the third hardest mineral after diamonds and moissanite on the Mohs scale of h
TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Year of the Rabbit
Perhaps not the first brand you would imagine producing an animal-themed' watch in time for the Chinese Lunar New Year, TAG Heuer is determined to consolidate its presence in this lucrative niche. Representing the fourth animal sign in the Chinese zodiac cycle, the rabbit will rule the roost of 12 zodiac animals starting on the 22nd of January, 2023, until the advent of the next Chinese New Year in 2024. I imagine that the big question for a brand like TAG Heuer is how to incorporate a bunny, or any other animal, into a virile sports watch. The solution, as you will see, is tastefully discreet yet will speak closely to Chinese consumers. A special edition of the 44mm TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph has been selected to celebrate the arrival of the Chinese New Year (CNY). Since 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, a cute red bunny with golden ears is portrayed on the caseback, visible only to the wearer. The dial also celebrates the Year of the Rabbit with its interesting textured black backgr
