Introducing The IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 Salmon Dial
If you’re a recurring reader of MONOCHROME, you should know by now that we have a soft spot for salmon-coloured dials. So much so that it was the main theme of our very first Montre de Souscription. Salmon is original, warm, and luxurious, and despite the outpouring of love from the watch-collecting community, these dials remain quite rare… An exclusive treat for connoisseurs. Now, it’s time for the most classic of all IWC Portugieser models to receive such as dial with the introduction of the new Portugieser Automatic 40 Salmon. First exclusive to the UAE, but no worries, it’ll soon be available worldwide.?Let’s make this story short… Because all you need to know here is that there’s a salmon dial on the existing Portugieser Automatic 40, combined with a stainless steel case. That’s it. But sometimes, small updates can create beautiful watches. And, sorry to sound enthusiastic (I love salmon dials, I can’t help it), but seeing a sa
The car-inspired Bulgari Aluminium Sorayama Special Edition.
Back in 2020, Bulgari decided it was time for the return of a late-1990s icon, the Bulgari Aluminium collection. Through a series of regularly available models and special editions, Bulgari has reintroduced this lightweight contemporary sports watch. Instantly recognisable by its Bvlgari Bvlgari signed black rubberised bezel and segmented black rubber bracelet, the Bulgari Aluminium is all about contrasts in colours and materials. Following the Vespucci and Ducati Special Editions, the third act of Aluminium’s play is inspired by pre-war car instrument panels. The simplest of the three from a mechanical perspective, the Bulgari Aluminium Sorayama Special Edition is no less endearing. To create this special edition, Bulgari worked with renowned Japanese hyper-realism artist Hajime Sorayama, whose work is often inspired by 1930s and 1940s classicism, aviation and cars. The dial is inspired by the instrument panels found in cars and aeroplanes from that very era, as it mimics the fin
Introducing New Blue PVD Santos de Cartier Large Model (Specs & Price)
Since its introduction in 2018, the Santos de Cartier has been the best example of a sporty/luxury watch for the brand. With its interesting mix of traditional, dare I say emblematic design with casual elements and overall robustness, it has since been seen in various editions designed to add a touch of boldness to the collection. In addition to the classic steel models, but also versions with a gradient blue dial or a black-coated case, it now comes with a new blue-coated bezel and new dials, all featuring an unprecedented striped pattern. Meet the new blue Santos de Cartier for Watches and Wonders 2022.While faithfulness and traditional elegance are to be found in the Santos-Dumont collection, the classic Santos de Cartier is a sporty, casual luxury watch with daily wear in mind. Hence the relative heft of the case, its modern dimensions and decent water-resistance make it a weekend-ready Cartier. With this in mind, it’s also a great vehicle for colour combinations, playing wit

Hands-On - Anonimo Militare Chronograph WRC Special Edition (Specs & Price)
When you think about the Italian brand?Anonimo, it’s more than likely that military-inspired chronographs (the Militare collection) and dive watches (the Nautilo line), both with cushion-shaped cases, spring to mind. However, things are changing at Anonimo as the brand evolves in new directions and enlarges its scope, for example with the Epurato collection – a dressier, smaller and more casual collection. Following this change of strategy, the Italian brand is now reinforcing its presence?in the motorsport world with the?Anonimo Militare Chronograph WRC Special Edition.Despite the new strategy, the design of Anonimo will remain faithful and deeply inspired by its roots.? The brand was created some 20 years ago on the ashes of Panerai. Following the sale of Panerai to the Vend?me Group (pre-Richemont) and its relocation to Switzerland, a handful of ex-employees stayed on in Italy and launched another brand called Anonimo. This explains the cushion-shaped cases, the numerous
