Hands-On: Roger Dubuis Orbis in Machina Central Monotourbillon
Modern watches made by Roger Dubuis are the antithesis of understatement and always manage to deliver a compelling mix of traditional horological content with a dash of extravagant, expressive design. This year’s releases focused on the flying tourbillon, culminating in the Orbis in Machina model with its rare, centrally mounted regulator (only a few can be named, from Omega – which first patented it in 1995 – Haldimann or Bulgari). The key word here is Orbis, referring to the revolutions of the tourbillon that are replicated at different speeds by the rotation of the minute and hour discs. Clad in hefty rose gold armour, the Orbis in Machina has two distinctive faces. The dial reveals a dynamic, multi-level, rotating construction, while the reverse presents a far more classical face of watchmaking.A fully integrated manufacturer based in Geneva, Roger Dubuis has produced over 40 calibres since its founding in 1995, all certified with the coveted Poin?on de Geneve qua
Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 GMT (Specs & Price)
There's certainly no shortage of dive watches on the market with diehard classics from , Omega, Seiko, and other mainstream heavyweights. Unique offerings from lesser known brands like H20 Watch and Farer provide intriguing alternatives, and there was a boom of relatively unknown, first-class divers thriving in the 1960s and 1970s. Similar in spirit to the revived Jenny Caribbean 300 diver, the new Aquadive Bathyscaphe 100 GMT brings retro styling with modern engineering for divers seeking to relive the past or simply sport a unique piece. With both German and Swiss design, the watch is first and foremost a submersible tool, but a stylish option for terrestrial fans as well. Let's take a closer look at this modern take on a sea-dwelling blast from the past.BACKGROUNDAlthough popular with innovat

Rado True Square Open Heart Silver Highlights
Rado is synonymous with trendy design-led watches and high-tech ceramic, a material the brand has been playing with since the 1990s. Last year Rado introduced the True Square Automatic, a slinky, smooth, high-tech ceramic model with openworked and regular dials. For 2021, Rado introduces a subtle colour variation on the openworked model, now with silvery grey accents. All the other specifications are identical to the 2020 version.Square ceramic watchesThe Rado Ceramica of 1990 was the brand's first square watch made from high-tech ceramic. Its sleek geometry and minimalism established the aesthetic we associated with Rado's ceramic watches. In 1988, the Ceramica was treated to another derivation of ceramic known as high-tech plasma ceramic, and in 2016 industrial designer Konstantin Grcic re-imagined the Ceramica in stark matte grey and black ceramic. ?As a sibling of the Ceramica, the True Square is obviously square but attenuates the rigid geometry of the square case with gently roun
