Glashutte Original PanoGraph Fly-Back (Live Pics, Specs, Price)
With its asymmetric dials and large date windows, the Pano Collection has become a beacon of Glashutte Original's solid Saxon identity – the PanoMaticLunar and the PanoReserve are the best-known examples of this utterly Saxon sense of design and mechanics. First released in 2002, the PanoGraph stood out from the crowd with its novel chronograph totaliser that dispensed with the traditional layout of sub-counters and proved that not all chronographs have to be hard-core sports athletes. A triumph of aesthetics and mechanics, we revisit the PanoGraph today and discover how an iconic Pano can take a complication on board without sacrificing an iota of style.?OriginsWhen Glashutte Original was acquired by the Swatch Group in 2000, it needed to make a convincing mission statement. Fast on the heels of A. Lange & Sohne's in-house flyback chronograph - the Datograph (just revisited in this Lumen version) – Glashutte Original wowed the stage with its PanoRetroGraph, a highly co

The History of the Ferrari V12 Engine, The Heat of Summer Classic Rallies and The Mid-Engine 'Vette - Monochrome Watches
Saturday means another kind of mechanics here, at MONOCHROME. As every week, we share with you our second passion: cars (like real cars, those that smell and make some noise). This week’s Petrolhead Corner is a “best of the web”, with some of the coolest stories we found. One of the most legendary engines explained, the fun of the summer rallies and the latest (and controversial) version of an iconic car. Fasten your seatbelts and start your engine (… coffee machine). The History of the Ferrari V12 EngineThere are legendary cars… Many of them! However, when it comes to the most important part of a car (real car), its engine, only two names come to my mind: Flat 6 and Colombo. The first is deeply linked to the iconic Porsche 911. The second created the legend surrounding Italian brand Ferrari. Without the intervention of engine designer Gioacchino Colombo, and the creation of the V12 engine that bears his name, Ferrari wouldn’t be Ferrari. It goes as f
Bored WIth Plain Dials We Take A Look At Some Of The Coolest Alternatives
Watchmaking is often touted to be about creativity and expressiveness, but when it comes to dials, brands tend to be a touch conservative. Simple silver, black or blue, however beautifully crafted they are, can be a bit, well, plain. And to some perhaps even boring. Luckily there are brands who dare to break those boundaries of materials and opt for something spectacularly different. With that in mind, here’s a look at a series of watches with the coolest alternative dial materials around.Omega Constellation MeteoritePerhaps the most conventional of the unconventional materials in this selection is the meteorite dials found in the new Omega Constellation 41mm collection. Despite being seen in multiple brands and watches, there’s always something fascinating about them. And Omega being Omega, they’ve gone the extra mile to colour-match Muonionalusta meteorite dials to the material of the case, from stainless steel to Moonshine Gold and even Sedna Gold (other dial colou
Hands-On - The new Louis Moinet Memoris Spirit (Specs & Price)
The Memoris was initially introduced?in 2016 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Ateliers Louis Moinet and the 200th anniversary of the Compteur de Tierces, the innovative stopwatch created by the eponymous watchmaker. Instead of revealing the chronograph movement on the caseback, the Memoris transposes the chronograph mechanism to the dial. During Watches and Wonders 2022, the model returns in a modernised version marking a fitting design direction for the independent watchmaking brand. Meet the Louis Moinet Memoris Spirit. The Louis Moinet Memoris was designed as a tribute to the creation of a historic Louis Moinet creation, the Compteurs de Tierces. According to the markings on the case, this remarkable stopwatch was designed in 1815-1816 to time the passage of the stars – it measures time intervals to the 60th of a second with start, stop and reset functions. To reach this impressive precision, its balance wheel beats at a staggering 216,000 vibrations per hour!
