Live from SIHH 2019 - Wilhelm Schmid of A. Lange & Sohne - Monochrome Watches
In our latest video coverage of SIHH 2019, our editor-in-chief Frank Geelen sits down with Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Sohne. Find out which of the five watches unveiled during the SIHH 2019 will go down as collector's pieces, and why 2019 is such a special year for some models of the Saxon brand. The star of the SIHH 2019 is the Lange 1 25th Anniversary, the brand's undisputed icon for the last quarter century and, according to Schmid, the backbone of our business. The Lange I Anniversary watch goes back to its roots and is presented in a 38.5mm white gold with blue printed markings on the different levels and surface treatments of the dial.? The watch also pays homage to the two men who put ALS back on the map, and the names of Walter Lange and Gunter Blumlein are engraved on the white gold hinged hunter caseback. The movement also features special anniversary treats, and with its limitation of just 250 timepieces, this is clearly targeted at collectors. The?Datograph Perpe
Introducing The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph Baguette Sapphires
A year after its grand 50th-anniversary celebrations, Audemars Piguet releases a 41mm white gold edition of the Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph embellished with blue baguette-cut sapphires and light blue panda sub-dials. Corresponding to the latest design evolutions applied to the Royal Oak family last year, the spirit of Gerald Genta's 1972 Royal Oak lives on in tones of blue ticking to the sophisticated in-house integrated flyback chronograph movement. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph 26240BC with Sapphire?will be available exclusively in Japan from May 2023 before being released globally in July 2023.FaceliftThe facelift practised on the Royal Oak in 2022?– for the 37mm Selfwinding and 38mm and 41mm Selfwinding Chronographs?– was subtle and did not alter the iconic features of the watch. The tonneau-shaped case, octagonal bezel with eight screws, integrated bracelet and Tapisserie pattern on the dial were all respected. What it did involve, however, was a more
Konstantin Chaykin Takes On The Silver Screen! - Monochrome Watches
The Russian genius returns with another incredible creation! Once again culling inspiration from the pages of history, the Cinema watch pays homage to an inventor from a bygone era.?The last time we caught up with Konstantin Chaykin it was to discuss the Levitas watch; a watch whose inspiration drew back to Robert Houdin's early 19th century Mystery Dial' clocks. Now it seems that he has turned to a different kind of magic, movie magic to build an incredibly clever and whimsical watch! The Eadweard Muybridge Cinema Watch is a 31 jewel, manual wind movement with 48 hours power reserve, creation telling the wearer time in hours and minutes. The first impression I had of the shape and layout of the 37mm by 47mm stainless steel case was that of a medium-format camera something old-fashioned at a minimum. By pressing the button at 9 o'clock on the case, an image of a horse and rider galloping appears! See for yourself! Ad - Scroll to continue with article
Watch from my year of birth - part 1 - Monochrome Watches
After the loads of information from the SIHH and Baselworld i am taking a break from blogging about news, more news and even more news. I still have lots of photos and a lot of information about the novelties released at Baselworld. No worries, i will blog about it later. One things that’s been keeping me busy for a long time already, is finding a watch from my year of birth. In my case this is 1971. Although no one of my watch buddies has been looking for a watch from their year of birth, I do wonder if this is common quest for watch addicts. For me finding a watch from my year of birth is really something special and i’ve spent many hours online searching for one. But no luck so far….Finding a vintage watch in original condition and in reasonable to good quality isn’t easy, especially not if it’s that old. Of course my taste is not making it any easier either. I’ve been thinking of some vintage sportswatches or maybe an old Heuer or maybe an old O
TAG Heuer Fortifies the AQUARACER 300M with a Ceramic Bezel (specs & price) - Monochrome-Watches
In watches, Rado made Ceramic useful, Chanel made Ceramic fashionable, and now Tag Heuer employs Ceramic in its AQUARACER 300M to make the material indomitable. Given the active lifestyle of many watch owners, a dive watch might hit, bang, scrape, bump or slam against almost anything. A ceramic bezel insures a long-lasting pristine appearance, thanks not only to the visual quality of ceramic, but also its surpassing durability. Since 2004, when Tag Heuer introduced the AQUARACER 300, its popularity has grown to becoming a recommendation for an affordable watch for new collectors. We recommend either the 41mm automatic or the 43mm chronograph, which come in a standard version (steel case), an all-black version (sandblasted black titanium carbide coated case), or a numbered, limited edition Black Phantom version (sandblasted black titanium carbide case). There are no poor choices. The AQUARACER 300M standard version gives you alternatives. The notched ceramic bezels can be black or blue,
