The Collector's Corner - The IWC Mark XII Pilot's Watch
Our last subject on The Collector's Corner was the Cartier Tank Americaine, and though we're sticking to the theme of the classic time-only watch for a little bit longer, this week we'll look at one with a very different flavour. The inaugural article in The Collector's Corner was about the IWC Doppelchronograph reference 3711. In 1993, one year after that reference was released, IWC followed up with a classic time-and-date-only pilot's watch that stuck to the utilitarian design of the military watch Mark XI, yet added some refinements to make it a more compelling product for the civilian population. That's right. We're talking about the Mark XII, the first in a long line of civilian pilot's watches in IWC's Mark collection. No other model line has stayed as true to its inspiration and is as instantly recognizable as an IWC as the classic Mark. And, it especially makes sense to talk about the Mark XII now, since IWC has released the latest generation of the collection, the Pilot's Watc
First Look: The New Certina DS-7 Powermatic 80 Collection
It won’t come as a surprise to tell you that the integrated bracelet category, watches inspired by 1970s luxury sports icons, is more popular than ever. Many brands, from entry-level to independent watchmakers, have already presented their alternatives in this field. When it comes to accessible luxury, the market is dominated by the Tissot PRX, a watch that has made a strong impact in the category. It is now time for Certina, another Swatch Group-owned brand, to unveil its vision of a sports watch with an integrated bracelet. Sleek and accessible, powered by the group’s solid automatic movement, meet the new DS-7 Powermatic 80 Collection. With the DS-7 collection, which also comprises a more accessible and sportier quartz-powered chronograph, Certina plays on the classic codes of the genre. Barrel-shaped case, raised bezel, a combination of textures, sporty look, full metal attire and a bracelet that follows the lines of the case… Simple, sleek and efficient.
Introducing The Spectacular Bulgari Octo Roma Mediterranea and Cameo Imperiale Secret Watches For Men
Bulgari is becoming a force to contend with in the watchmaking arena, and not just because of its ultra-thin, razor-sharp Octo Finissimo range that has scaled the podium to achieve ‘iconic’ stature in less than a decade. As Rome’s most celebrated jeweller, Bulgari’s high-jewellery watches are no less spectacular. The launch of the spectacular Mediterranea high jewellery and watch collection, interpreting the vibrant colours and marine life of the Mediterranean in precious stones, includes a one-off men’s Octo Roma Mediterranea secret watch powered by Bulgari’s record-breaking, ultra-thin flying tourbillon movement. The Auction Hammer: 4 Essential vintage chronographs at Boule Monaco - July 28th - Monochrome-Watches
Recently, we showed the best of the es that will be auctioned the 28th of July by Boule Monaco.?But is not the only brand that deserves some attention, and while sneaking around the catalogue, we found timepieces to fulfil our love for vintage chronographs: 2 amazing aviator tools from Breguet and 2 highly desirable and uncommon Longines vintage chronographs. We believe that an overview of the pieces is not only in order, but even essential.Lot 568 – Breguet Type 20 – The perfect oneThe Type 20 is one of our favourites here at Monochrome-Watches. Alongside the full review we’ve been doing of the modern TypeXX, we also recently sourced a vintage edition from Airain. Type 20 refers to specifications and not to a precise model, as we already told you. But as a collector, Breguet will always be on the top of the list. The Boule auction holds no fewer than 3 of these beauties and this first example from 1960 may be the perfect one. Why? Because it has just been refurbis
Introducing: The Denim Blue Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G
Patek Philippe releases a new white gold reference of its popular Aquanaut Travel Time with a greyish-blue dial and matching strap. While many Patek fans mourned the discontinuation of the 5164A stainless steel Aquanaut earlier this year, the new white gold reference – a first for this model –? is a handsome addition to the family and sits alongside the existing rose gold ref. 5164R.Introduced in 1997, the Aquanaut proved that there was life beyond the mythical Nautilus sports watch. Sportier and more casual than the Nautilus, the Aquanaut was conceived as a multipurpose sports watch and featured a textured tropical rubber strap echoing the embossed pattern of the dial. In 2011, Patek fitted the Aquanaut with its first complication to become the Aquanaut Travel Time. Ad - Scroll to continue with article Flaunting a practical GMT function, the second
