Industry News: LVMH Acquires High-End Clockmaker L'Epee 1839
Known as the largest luxury group in the world, owned by the Arnault family, LVMH continues its development in all fields related to rare and artistic crafts. Already the owner, through its Watches Division, of TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith (as well as jewellery brands Bulgari and Tiffany, not included in this division), the group expands its portfolio by announcing the addition of a renowned yet niche company, L'Epee 1839, through the acquisition of its owner Swiza.?Founded 185 years ago and based in Delemont, in the Swiss Jura, L'Epee 1839 is one of the few surviving clockmakers on the scene. The brand and its owner, Swiza, have unique expertise in this field. The production of these unique timepieces brings together a wide range of craftsmen and savoir-faire, with more than 80 designers, engineers, watchmakers, mechanics and employees working alongside Arnaud Nicolas, CEO and Creative Director of L'Epee 1839.The T-Rex Table Clock of MB&F made together with L’Epee 1839When i
Introducing: The New Onyx Edition of the MB&F LM Flying T
MB&F undertook its maiden voyage into the galaxy of women’s watches with the launch of its Legacy Machine Flying T in 2019. After 14 years of masterminding complex watches for men, Max Busser’s Legacy Machine Flying T flaunted all the attributes associated with MB&F watches but in a more feminine format – or even a very feminine format when teaming up with Bulgari. For 2024, the watch shifts gear and returns in more unisex attire with a sleek black onyx dial plate and an 18k yellow gold case without diamonds. The latest Legacy Machine Flying T could be classified as the black-tie version of this model. With no diamonds highlighting the case, the model is closer in spirit to the non-diamond-set Flying T Red Gold of 2020 with its guilloche dial plate. Considering that many of MB&F’s watches are too large for men with smaller wrists, the more restrained dimensions and toned-down styling of the Flying T make it a viable option for both sexes. A
The New Cartier Prive Tank Normale Honouring The 1917 Original
The Cartier Tank, without a doubt, is one of the most recognizable and iconic watch designs. A revolutionary concept in 1917, as elegant and sophisticated as ever more than a hundred years later, with many exquisite interpretations, it is the watch of great importance to watchmaking history, not just Cartier. Surprisingly enough, when Cartier launched the Cartier Prive series in 2017 to offer each year a collection of contemporary interpretations of some of the Maison’s most classic timepieces, the first watch to be presented was the Crash, followed by Tank Cintree, Tonneau, Tank Asymetrique, Cloche and Tank Chinoise. The original Tank, which started it all, was left unnoticed, as was the Collection Privee Cartier Paris case, which featured re-issues of all the essential Cartier models over the years but never a Tank. This year, the 7th edition of Cartier Prive highlights the Tank Normale, the “mother idea”, with a bundle of new limited editions. Good things come to t
Hands-On: The Handsome 36mm Salmon Chopard L.U.C 1860 In Steel
Developed over three years, Chopard’s calibre 1.96 with a gold micro-rotor and a slim height of 3.3mm was released in 1996. Garnering praise as one of the finest automatic movements available, the movement established the brand as a true manufacture. The first watch to feature the in-house calibre was the L.U.C 1860 of 1997 with a 36.5mm case and elegant guilloche decoration on the dial. The latest L.U.C 1860 looks back to this 1997 timepiece and reproduces the compact 36.5mm case size but crafts it in Chopard’s exclusive Lucent Steel A223 alloy,? a first for the L.U.C family. Like the first L.U.C 1860, the dial is beautifully decorated with hand-guilloche patterns, but the date window has been eliminated. ?Compact dress watchThe compact 36.5mm diameter and thin 8.20mm thickness of the case are clearly indicative of its dress watch category. Crafted in Lucent Steel, a resistant and luminous alloy usually reserved for the Alpine Eagle collection, the three-part case features
SIHH 2017 - Montblanc TimeWalker Chronograph Automatic (Hands-On) - Monochrome Watches
This is the big one for Montblanc this year, the brand new?TimeWalker collection. After several editions of the SIHH focusing on classical and elegant timepieces – what the brand called “accessible luxury” – Montblanc has decided to do the complete opposite?and present the last thing you would expect: a sports watch collection. In fact, this was Davide Cerrato’s main objective when he joined the brand, as Managing Director of the?Watch Division. And to prove that he has done what he was asked to, here is the very appealing?Montblanc TimeWalker Chronograph Automatic. The Montblanc TimeWalker is not entirely a new collection. In fact, it has been in the catalogue for quite a while, however with a different objective as the one it now aims to achieve. This collection was the modern and urban offer of the brand, characterized mainly by its hollowed lugs with the Montblanc logo, a rather minimalistic design and clean dials with specific fonts and hands – a
