Breaking: The AP Code 11.59 Ultra-Complication Universelle Wins GPHG 2023
Tonight the 2023 edition of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve has just unveiled who is the grand winner of this year’s awards ceremony! Often regarded as the Oscars of Watchmaking, the GPHG stands for a celebration of all things surrounding mechanical watchmaking. A specially selected jury has narrowed down all the entries into multiple categories with 6 watches each. Out of all the entries, only one has been selected as the grand winner, receiving the coveted Aiguille d’Or trophy for Best of Show. In addition to that, each category winner also received an award. Last year, the impressive MB&F Legacy Machine Sequential EVO, one of the most advanced chronographs on the market, took the golden hand back home. This year, the jury of the GPHG 2023 was on a mission to celebrate watchmaking to the best of its capacities, rewarding what’s known as one of the most complicated wristwatches ever created… A watch with no fewer than 40 functions and 23 complic
A Personal Story on the Ventura V-Tec Sigma
If you follow MONOCHROME, even occasionally, you know that we're all about mechanical watches. It takes something really special to get us excited about something battery-powered, but every now and then, that something comes along. The retro Hamilton PSR is a recent example, along with the quartz Citizen Calibre 0100 that's accurate to +/-1 second per year. Also, we sometimes dig into our own collections to highlight a special piece, like Frank's vintage Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Brice's Breguet Type XX. So, in this hands-on review, I'm going to talk about my own Ventura V-Tec Sigma, an unconventional luxury digital watch that once guest-starred in a Nicolas Cage movie.BACKGROUND VenturaVentura was founded by Pierre Nobs in 1987, who left the mainstream watch industry to find something more meaningful. Disheartened by the fake nostalgia coming from well-known brands, he wanted to create unique, avant-garde watches in collaboration with renowned industrial designers. It wasn't long

Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec for Only Watch 2013 - Monochrome Watches
I’ve just returned from Switzerland, where I visited both Montblanc watch manufactures together with the winner of the sweepstake that we did recently (see here). Soon you can read all about our three-day trip to Montblanc’s manufactures in Le Locle and in Villeret, but today I’d like to share some exclusive photos of Montblanc’s watch for the Only Watch auction. While we were there, they pulled it out the 500 hour test for a brief moment, so we could see it and of course take some photos to share with you.?Montblanc’s entry for the Only Watch auction is a unique black DLC version of the Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours, which was introduced earlier this year, with a rose gold crown, pushers and screws in de case back. The Rotating hour disk now also comes in gold and the model name, minute markers and several other details are printed in brown/gold.?The bridge that holds the minute and seconds hand (the disks rotate) is gold plated and so are the two attache
Introducing The New TAG Heuer Monaco Skeleton Chronograph (Live Pics & Price)
The TAG Heuer Monaco, the instantly recognizable square chronograph designed at the end of the 1960s, is nothing short of an icon (a word often abused, but that does have its place here). Fueled by the connection with motorsport, worn by legends in cult movies, oddly cool and boldly designed, and with more than half a century of stories to tell, it has recently been presented in multiple iterations, including classic designs or audacious colours. Today, TAG Heuer is presenting what could be the most contemporary and technical take on its Monaco Chronograph in recent years, a version that reveals parts of the movement on the dial side and that plays on modern graphics to animate its display. Here’s the new TAG Heuer Monaco Skeleton Chronograph. If you exclude the highly technical V4 editions – deeply revamped models powered by a movement driven by belts, and with a different case shape –?a unique piece in carbon made for Only Watch 2021, and the very exclusive “Ri
