Hands-on - Andreas Strehler Papillon Sauterellea Lune Exacte - The Most Precise MoonPhase Wristwatch Ever - Monochrome Watches
Watchmakers are like all?boys. When it comes to numbers, being first or having the greatest is always better – even if having the biggest (watch of course…) is not always desirable. Watchmakers always looked for the most complicated watch, for the watch with the most features, for the most precise movement or for the lightest case. And even when it comes to a specific complication, being the most accurate?is a very good marketing argument – which of course always implies stupendous technical developments and immense watchmaking skills. In terms of MoonPhase, the title for the most precise was already in the hands of?Andreas Strehler, but it’s now even better with his?new?Papillon Sauterellea Lune Exacte.Technical reminder: the precision of the MoonPhase indicationWhat is a moon phase indication? Well, as we explained to you in our Technical Perspective article, a moonphase watch tends to reproduce the age of the moon, indicating it via a?wheel with 59 teeth (2 x
Monochrome's Top 10 Best Watches of the Year 2012 - Monochrome Watches
In previous years I tried to nominate my personal choice of best watches in several price categories. Since Monochrome usually covers watches above 10k, it was an unfair competition in that highest segment of the market, so this year I’ll refrain from that approach.?What I’ll do is go through the best and/or most desirable watches and I’ll motivate my choice. Of course everything boils down to a matter of taste, however it is also very important to be able to see through the marketing stories and be able to separate?the good from the bad. In no particular order I’ll give you my Top 10 Best Watches of 2012.Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph ref. 5980/1a Ad - Scroll to continue with article Earlier this year Patek Philippe launched a white dial version for several models of the extremely popular Nautilus collection. I’ve always liked
Richemont Announces Strong Quarterly Results just before SIHH 2018 - Monochrome Watches
Just days ahead of the launch of the 2018 edition of the SIHH – the Geneva-based watch fair where all the watchmaking brands of the Richemont Group present their novelties – the Richemont Group posts its financial results for?the last quarter of 2017. The positive trend continues with an overall 7% increase in sales for the Group.Firstly, note that growth is mainly registered at constant exchange rates. The influence of currencies is rather negative, which has a strong impact on results at actual exchange rates. However, at constant exchange rates, Richemont Group shows a promising growth of 7% overall for the last quarter of 2017, compared to the same period in 2016. Omega 2015 Novelties - Omega Baselworld 2015 - The watches we hope to see (including the new Railmaster) - Monochrome-Watches
Yes, we plead guilty! We are recidivists. We’ve been doing it before with . We did it again with Tudor. Now, it’s time for us to share with you our predictions for what could (very well) be the watches that Omega will introduce this year at Baselworld. Last year, the brand teased us with several videos and darken photos that suggested a new Omega Seamaster 300. Fortunately, our predictions were quite accurate and Omega came with the Master Co-Axial edition of the SM300. This year, we are including in our?Omega 2015 Novelties some cool watches that could very well be there in two weeks. The re-issue of the Omega RailmasterThis one is nearly too obvious. The first Omega Railmaster was part of a collection of 3 professionally-oriented watches launched in 1957 – a collection that includes the Omega Speedmaster CK2915, the Omega Seamaster 300m CK2913 and the Omega Railmaster CK2914. The first one was a racing chronograph that ended to be the official NASA watch worn on the
Omega De Ville Tresor - More than Meets the Eye (Live Photos & Price) - Monochrome-Watches
Although it's best known for its sport models, Omega has always produced a large variety of timepieces that could be worn in almost any circumstance. During a visit at an?Omega Boutique, I was surprised to find that my attention wasn't focused on the timepieces I'm usually most impressed with. Yes, I saw the new Seamaster 300 in all its glory, I worshipped the Speedmaster once more, I was just torn apart by the Ploprof (happens to me almost every time, and then thoughts of selling a kidney come to mind). But what grasped my attention was a 40mm dress watch, luxurious but austere, well proportioned and so complete in every aspect: the Omega De Ville Tresor, a re-edition of a 1940's watch produced by Omega. Its ancestor, the archetypal Tresor, was an oversized watch (37,5mm) by the standards of the time, with a very simple 3-hand dial and a pink gold case. At its heart beat the legendary Calibre 30 (produced from 1939 up to 1963, in almost twenty variations). The Calibre 30 also became Om
