In-Depth: Diving With The New Aquastar Model 60
Aquastar made a name for itself in the early 1960s as one of the first purveyors of purpose-built dive watches. Starting as a company that made watches and other maritime instruments, it became one of the most well-known watch brands for serious SCUBA divers and underwater professionals. It found a certain type of fame on the wrists of everyone from Jacques Cousteau’s team of explorers to US Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh, who wore an Aquastar while aboard the bathyscaphe Trieste for his pioneering journey to the bottom of Challenger Deep at a record-breaking depth of 10,911 metres (for the record, the Deep Sea Special was strapped outside, some Longines stopwatches were onboard, and Walsh was wearing an Aquastar). After a bit of a lull during the quartz crisis, Aquastar was revived in 2020 by none other than Rick Marei, the man famous for rejuvenating another esoteric dive watch brand, Doxa. Today, we take the brand’s latest creation underwater, the Aquastar Model 60, a tribu
Omega and METAS - The start of a new Era - Visiting the Omega Manufacture & the METAS certification (Part 1) - Monochrome Watches
Omega revolutionized the watch industry in 1892 by industrializing the production of the components of a pocket watch, enabling faster delivery and larger volumes. Omega has won precision awards and were the primary supplier of time measurement devices for the Olympics. During the past ten years Omega managed to mass produce a reliable co-axial movement that requires considerably less servicing. In 2013 Omega announced a watch that houses the first ever fully antimagnetic movement. This innovation cannot be understated! Now, Omega reaches a new step, by announcing a partnership with METAS, an independent governmental agency, in order to develop an in-house and unique, in-depth certification. Explanations about the METAS tests, visit of the?manufacture and of the METAS facilities, challenges and issues, explained by Nick Hayek… All of this will be?detailed?here.Magnetic fields are one of the biggest challenges facing the mechanical watches we admire and love. An increasing problem
NASA to Send Ultra-Precise, Miniaturised, Game-Changing "Deep Space Atomic Clock" to Space - Monochrome Watches
Knowing the time onboard a ship/vessel/spacecraft/vehicle isn’t just about knowing “what time it is”… It goes far beyond that! 18th-century maritime explorers knew that. In order to calculate their position around the globe (establishing their latitude and longitude), they needed to have one heck of a precise clock onboard – marine chronometers back then. Even though technology has evolved (to say the least), the concept remains the same for space trips… And NASA is about to launch a piece of equipment that will drastically change the way astronauts navigate – and yes, the underlying idea is to help them navigate to Mars and beyond!Navigation and timeAs surprising as it might be, time isn’t just a notion of “what time it is”. When travelling, it can take on an entirely different dimension. Something that maritime explorers were quick to understand. Time can, in this instance, be used to determine longitude by accurately measur
Only Watch 2017 - Tudor Black Bay Bronze One - LHD / Khaki Green ref. 7925/001
Let’s be honest, the unique Patek and F.P.Journe for Only Watch 2017 we’ve just introduced to you earlier today are indeed really important?pieces… But let’s not forget the brand that surprised everyone back in 2015, with a watch that sold for multiples of?its pre-sale estimate: Tudor. For the 7th Edition of the charity auction, they are back, with a unique left handed and?Khaki Green Bronzo, the?Tudor Black Bay Bronze One.Two years ago, at Only Watch 2015, Tudor rocked the event?by presenting a unique Black version of the Heritage Black Bay, a watch that was prefiguring a future commercial watch (the Black Bay Black 79220N). This watch caused a sensation, as it reached approximately 100 times the price of a standard Black Bay, at CHF 375,000. Clearly, collectors had shown their enthusiasm for?it by bidding – hard. This year, for Only Watch 2017, Tudor had no other choice than to bring another ultra-cool piece. And here it is, the?Tudor Black Bay Bronze On
Introducing The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 42mm France Limited Edition
Since its introduction in 2020, a launch that marked a new step in the life of the emblematic chronograph of TAG Heuer, the classic Carrera 42mm has been presented in an array of editions, ranging from non-limited models in blue, black or grey, but also some bolder versions in gold, matching the style of the 911 2.7 RS or with colourful accents. Now, all of these watches, even limited ones, were made in relatively large numbers, and available worldwide. However, the latest version of the Carrera Chronograph 42mm is one that will require you to visit France (not the worst place to travel…), but it’s also one of the best-looking editions to date. The present model, TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph 42mm France Limited Edition, is as you’ve guessed, a regional model that will only be made for the French market and in 200 pieces only. It is also available on the brand’s e-commerce website, but only when navigating from France. I’d say that, if you’re not livi
