Hands-on review of the brand new MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual, the first QP of the brand (live pics, specs & price) - Monochrome-Watches
And the saga continues… After a first timepiece to launch the concept, the Legacy Machine 1, with a super-clean design and great elegance, followed by a second and more complicated watch, the Legacy Machine 2 and finally the “value proposition” of the brand, the recent Legacy Machine 101, available in two editions, including the so-cool Frost, it’s now time for MB&F to explore one of the finest complications available on the market. Without loosing the whole concept of the Legacy Machines – watches that MB&F could have manufactured?100 years ago – the brands goes into serious watchmaking, with the brand new?MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual (featuring, as you’ve probably guessed, a perpetual calendar complication).Reminder about the Legacy Machine collectionWhen launching the first watch of the Legacy Machine collection – alongside the other collections of MB&F, the Horological Machines (from HM1 to HM6 and HMX) and the Music
IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph IW394005 Review
During the 2020 online edition of Watches & Wonders, IWC unveiled this complicated Portugieser flying tourbillon, retrograde date and flyback chronograph model. Marking the top-end releases in the new Portugieser collection, along with an equally impressive Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon, the tourbillon chronograph watch was presented in precious metal cases of gold or platinum. If you think this combination of complications already existed, you'd be right since they made their debut in the IWC Da Vinci Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph of 2017 and later that year in the one-off Portugieser Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph for Laureus Charity Night 2017. The gold model with blue dial ref. IW394005, which is also a Boutique Edition, was our candidate for today's hands-on session. Boutique editions refer to IWC models that combine gold cases and blue dials, very fitting given the maritime theme of the Portugieser.Portugieser lineageThe Portugieser is one of IWC's oldest a
A closer look at the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Sandstone
Colour has become a key protagonist in the watch world these days. We've seen just about every colour under the sun splashed across dials, and many brands tout a simple change of dial colour as a novelty. Colour can be fun, but it can also get tiring. A vibrant purple dial might be tempting, but after a couple of years might start to look dated. After all, Pantone produces an official colour every year. This year the colour was Very Peri, a rather ugly shade of mauve that is described as a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through. A tall order for any colour, but it is an example of how colours are associated with periods of time. Like almost every watch brand, Omega has turned its hand to the paint box and relied on colourful dials to change the mood of its Seamaster Aqua Terra, including a mandatory and very handsome green model in 2020. Released earlier this year, the Aqua Terra turned up with nine different colour options for the dial and
The fight of the Titans - Unique pieces from Patek Philippe, FP Journe & Kari Voutilainen for Only Watch 2015 (live photos) - UPDATE with results, including the most expensive wristwatch ever - Monochrome-Watches
Handling unique pieces is for us a quite recurrent privilege. I know this will sound posh, but that’s our daily job (what a difficult life you’ll admit). Well, the truth is that nowadays, many brands come with unique watches, because of?a special request or watches made to create the buzz. However, the three watches you’re about to see are not the kind of?timepieces?you’ll see everyday – well in fact, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to handle the finest from the finest, 3 exceptional unique timepieces made by 3 master manufactures. The point is not to debate on?which is the best, but just to show you 3 of the best watches to be auctioned for Only Watch 2015. UPDATE: The Unique?Patek Philippe ref. 5016A-010 Minute Repeater Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar in stainless steel reached a stratospheric 7,300,000 Swiss Francs, making it THE most expensive wristwatch ever sold during an?auction.?in the left corner, the heavyweight, the title holder, Patek
Tudor Heritage Black Bay 36 Ref. 79500 - Review with Specs & Price
I must admit that, when the Tudor Heritage Black Bay 36 Ref. 79500 was introduced at Baselworld 2016, I was quite indifferent towards it. Instead my attention?was focused on?all the other Black Bay's, the black, the total black and the bronze. These I said to myself were proper watches, bold, and greatly executed. The 36mm meanwhile was a watch I just could not understand. However, when I finally had the chance to strap it on my wrist for a few?days, in order to write this review, I started to realize how much it reminded me of?that famous line?from the great F. A. Porsche: A formally harmonious product needs no decoration, it should be elevated through pure form. Thus my attitude began to?completely change. This watch has something special, read our?review of the Black Bay 36 to discover exactly what it is.The Tudor Heritage Black Bay 36 Ref. 79500The basic idea of this model is to sit below the now standard 41mm Black Bay and the not-so-standard 43mm-bronze, which are basically retro
