Introducing the AkriviA Tourbillon Chiming Jump Hour (specs & price) - Monochrome-Watches
Take a moment to allow those words to sink in: Tourbillon, Chiming, Jump Hour. Three complications joined in one single watch; two complications are rare, all three are highly unusual joined into one piece and take an extreme dexterity to do right. You cannot deny that AkriviA, the brand formed just three years ago, has ambition. You also cannot deny that Rexhep Rexhepi, the master watchmaker behind the brand, has the horological prowess to back up this ambition. Heck, if a legend like Kari Voutilainen says you're good, you're good*.?We've explained before, but we cannot emphasize it enough. The level of watchmaking this young man works at is simply staggering. Joining Patek Phillipe as an apprentice at the age of 14 years, movement developer for the now defunct (and partly gobbled up by Hublot) BNB Concepts and being hired as a watchmaker for Fran?ois-Paul Journe, it is evident Rexhep knows his complications. At FP Journe he worked on the Les Resonances, Octa and Chronograph Souverain
SPOTTED: Prototype AP Royal Oak 40th Anniversary Skeleton Tourbillon in STAINLESS STEEL - Monochrome Watches
Admit it, we all do it. Trying to find out what other people have strapped to their wrist while we are on the go, or at a party of some sort. Oogling, if you will. Perhaps the place to be oogling ones wrist, without coming across like a total creep, is a watch fair! During the recent storm of novelties coming out of the SIHH, we spotted a very special one-off: a Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 40th Anniversary Skeleton Tourbillon. STEEL PROTOTYPE!Obviously, the Royal Oak family needs no introduction, but we'll run down the important bits nonetheless. Ever since the first model(ref. 5402ST), designed by Gerald Genta back in 1972, the Royal Oak has become synonymous with Audemars Piguet. It is the quintessential watch that saved the brand from bankruptcy. Its instantly recognizable shape, the octagonal bezel with hexagonal screws, the visible gasket in between, the often portrayed grande or petit tapisserie decoration on the dial and the iconic metal bracelet are just a few touches that have g
Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Flameante Salmon Dial - Review, Price
Cuervo y Sobrinos, the Swiss brand with Cuban roots, expands its Historiador collection with this new Flameante model with an elegant salmon dial. Like all Cuervo y Sobrinos designs, the mood is markedly retro. In the case of the Historiador Flameante collection, the inspiration is taken directly from a Cuervo y Sobrinos model produced in the 1950s. With its slim profile, distinctive lugs and hand-wound movement, the flaming' dial of the watch catches the eye immediately.Cuervo y Sobrinos is an oddity in the world of Swiss watchmaking: it is the only Swiss brand with Cuban roots. Established in Havana in 1882, the brand was revived in the late 1990s and has carved a niche with models that lean heavily on vintage design cues. In line with more contemporary tastes, the cases are larger than the original vintage pieces which inspired the collections. Most of the Historiador family watches are equipped with modern, Swiss mechanical movements. There are recreations, like the Historiador Lan
Discovering The Work Of Chinese Indie Watchmaker Logan Kuan Rao
It’s not often we travel to China for stories on high-end mechanical watchmaking, even in the virtual sense. But, as the perception of watchmaking is shifting from Swiss dominion towards a more global industry, the Middle Kingdom has proven to be a unique source of rather interesting watches. Take Celadon HH, Qin Gan or Atelier Wen, for instance, who are determined to bring prestige to the “Made in China” designation. Today though, we’re uncovering another Chinese watchmaking gem by the name of Logan Kuan Rao. This self-taught indie watchmaker makes his watches almost entirely by himself and by hand. And as Logan Kuan Rao is about to deliver his second watch, the Wuwei, it was time to shine a light on this rising star.Robin, MONOCHROME: Logan, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers? Hands-On Tudor Pelagos FXD Marine Nationale 25707B
So yes, the news broke yesterday, the new and highly-anticipated Tudor watch made with the French Navy, or Marine Nationale?has been released. And naturally, the watch generated heated debate because there were a lot of expectations and wishes surrounding this model, and in the end, it probably wasn’t what some had in mind. So no, the new Tudor M.N. watch is not an evolution of the Black Bay 58. Not it’s not worn on a green elastic strap. And no, it’s not a proper vintage re-edition. What it is is actually quite interesting. It’s not a commercial watch per se, but it is a true military watch designed by and for combat divers – so yes, it marks the comeback of the mil-spec watch. And if some were surprised by some of the features (WR, bezel), once you get to see the watch in the metal and try to look beyond its looks, it all makes a lot of sense. So, without further developments, let’s look at what this new Tudor Pelagos FXD ref. 25707B Marine Nationa
