Opinion - What We Expect From The Successor to the Patek Nautilus 5711
It all started as a rumour, back in January 2021. We heard that Patek Philippe was about to discontinue its most emblematic sports watch, the time-and-date Nautilus 5711 (which is, coincidentally, one of the most sought-after watches on the pre-owned market). And the rumour was indeed true, as Thierry Stern announced stopping the production of the model introduced in 2006, the blue dial 5711/1A-001. But afterwards, two things happened. First, the brand released a one-year-only farewell edition, the Olive Green Nautilus 5711. And, of course, there has been the Tiffany Blue 5711, made in 170 pieces only. And now, we know that the Nautilus 5711 is definitely gone and discontinued. This can’t be the end of the story for the time-and-date Patek Philippe Nautilus. Will there be a watch to keep the legend alive…? We believe so, and here’s what we’d like to see in the new Patek Philippe Nautilus – let’s call it 6711 for now.?The way Patek Philippe and its Pr
Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 Auto Chrono - Introducing, Specs & Price
It seems that Hamilton is on fire, with multiple well-received, vintage-inspired releases, such as the Khaki Pilot Pioneer, the Khaki Field Mechanical or the Intra-Matic. As we’re still in 2019 and still celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Chrono-Matic/Calibre 11 movement, the brand introduces another watch modelled on a glorious watch – and this time, it won’t be for the faint-hearted. Meet the new Hamilton Chrono-Matic 50 Auto Chrono “Count-down”.A reissue of the Count-down GMT Chrono-MaticAfter reissuing the Hacked, the H-10 and the Chrono-Matic, ex-American, now Swiss brand Hamilton looks at another of its glorious models, the base for today’s revival watch: the Chronograph-E or Count-down GMT Chrono-Matic. Together with Heuer, Buren and Breitling, helped by Dubois-Depraz, Hamilton was one of the first manufacturers to present an automatic chronograph, a movement named Chrono-Matic or Calibre 11 depending on the brand. This movement is charac
Hands-on - The retro-cool Hamilton Railroad Pocket Watch
Smartphones are the pocket watches of today, second only to our prized wristwatches for relaying the time. For centuries, however, pocket watches reigned supreme as timekeepers for civilian, military, business and scientific use. If you're wondering if there's still a place for pocket watches in the 21st century, check out our in-depth article (short answer, YES). Modern pocket watches tend to be very expensive, luxury pieces made in limited quantities like Omega's 125th Anniversary Pocket Watch or the Piaget Altiplano 60th Anniversary Pocket Watch, but brands like Tissot and Hamilton are keeping the past alive for the rest of us. Hamilton's new Railroad Pocket Watch is an excellent example.American RailroadsHamilton was founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and was vital to the American railroad industry. In the late 19th and well into the 20th century, Hamilton pocket watches were important instruments to keep trains coordinated and moving safely. They often operated on single t

Today, we’re extremely proud to announce that tomorrow, 11 December 2017, our largest video project ever (and we’ve done quite a few – see here) will go live, and it will last for no less than 5 days. It took us some great efforts to gather all these amazing guests, to find the right angle, to define what it would look like, and of course to film it… Here it is, “The Speedmaster Chronicles” will start tomorrow 5:00 PM (Europe Time) – 11:00 AM (New York time) – 12:00 PM (Hong Kong time). In this series of videos, 5 men will shed their light on one of the most iconic watches ever created, you name it: the Omega Speedmaster “Moonwatch”. From the man who gave the official “Flight Qualified by NASA” accreditation, to a fellow watch-journalist who made Tuesday a greater day, to a passionate guy with a collection to die for,?to one of the greatest contemporary auctioneers, to the man who is the current guarantor?of this ic
Video: The Ulysse Nardin Freak, the watch that broke all conventions
The other day, we went to Switzerland to film one of the most important and influential watchmakers of the last few decades. It’s not a name that is on everyone’s tongue, but it actually should. Let’s look at this objectively… A watchmaker who created the most complex astronomical watches in times when computer-aided designing and calculations were not widely available. A watchmaker who created a watch that is like no other, that indicates hours with a main spring barrel that rotates once per 12 hours and the entire calibre is an in-line movement that hovers over the main spring barrel and rotates once every hour. However, it is important to mention that the latter was the very first watch to use silicon in its escapement. I’m talking about Ludwig Oechslin and the Ulysse Nardin Freak. Now I could go on about Ulysse Nardin’s Trilogy of Time, however, we didn’t go to film those masterpieces. Yes, these three watches (hence the trilogy) were incred
