Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium (Specs & Price)
While MONOCHROME is more on the higher-end side of the watch industry, we also know that not all readers and watch enthusiasts can afford a Breguet or an Omega. This is why we’ve created a section called “Value Proposition,” where we feature watches that we believe are great?value for the money. Apart from microbrands, when it comes to proper Swiss-made pieces, there’s one brand that shouldn’t be overlooked; Tissot. And today we’ll review what we think is one of the best quality-price ratios now available on the market, and altogether a great all-rounder watch, the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium. Basically, the perfect watch to step foot in the world of mechanical watchmaking.?Let’s first remove from the equation the hardcore watch enthusiast or seasoned collector, those who own multiple watches and have this ability to change depending on the activity or attire. Just Because - Some of the Most Used Nicknames in Watchmaking
Like them or not, appropriate or not, nicknames have to be earned. Watches are very personal objects and they reflect an enduring connection with fans. Often, these nicknames are directly inspired by the characteristics of the watch, its shape or colours. In other cases, celebrities or a special event made a watch famous and their name has remained linked to the model forever. One thing is certain, iconic watches from cult brands earn nicknames among collectors and aficionados. Not surprisingly, these are widespread across the more popular brands ( , Seiko, Omega) while the watches from niche or high-end brands get less of these familiar monikers. Even cult Patek watches are referred to by connoisseurs with their 4-digit reference numbers, rather than their names. Here are some of the brands with the most nicknames?Note: If you can think of any other nicknames, please share them in our comment section below. We’d be delighted to expand the list. Introducing Ulysse Nardin Ocean Race Diver Chronograph Limited
The provenance of Ulysse Nardin might be a small, landlocked country, but thanks to its marine chronometers, the brand from Le Locle has always been closely associated with the sea since 1846. By the 1870s, Ulysse Nardin supplied more than 50 navies and merchant marine companies with precision marine deck chronometers. Today, the brand underscores its maritime credentials as the official timing partner of the exciting Ocean Race. Regarded as the longest (60,000 km) and toughest round-the-world team sailing challenge since 1973, the 14th edition of The Ocean Race kicked off in Alicante, Spain, in January 2023. Docking in nine cities around the globe over six months and finishing in Genoa in June, the teams have embarked on their fifth leg from Newport, Rhode Island, to Aarhus, Denmark. Taking advantage of the pit stop in Rhode Island and celebrating The Ocean Race’s 50th anniversary, Ulysse Nardin unveiled a 100-piece edition of its Ocean Race Diver Chronograph. The Ocean RaceOrigi

We go hands-on with the robust and bold Tissot PRS 516 Chronograph
Tissot might be coming up for its 170th birthday next year, but it has always known how to keep pace with the times. As one of the first brands to court the exciting world of car racing in the late 1950s, Tissot and sporty chronographs have become natural allies. One of the brand's earliest watches inspired by the race track was the PR 516 of 1965; a novel steel sports watch with a perforated steel bracelet to simulate the holes found on the steering wheels of race cars. Earlier this year, Tissot revamped its PRS 516 Automatic Chronograph but didn't go down the vintage path. In a departure from the brand's Heritage collection with compelling remakes of vintage models, the PRS 516 is a thoroughly contemporary chronograph with a bold attitude, plenty of motorsport details and an aggressive price. Let's take a look at the black and blue versions of the PRS 516 Chronographs launched in March 2022 with a beefed-up Valjoux movement.Race TrackThe brand's first association with motorsports dat
