Pre SIHH 2015: Three new models of the A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia collection - Monochrome Watches
Today we’re introducing three new A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia models that will be officially launched during the upcoming SIHH in January 2015. Technically all three watches will remain the same, however in terms of aesthetics and/or size the Saxonia, the Saxonia Automatic and the Saxonia Dual Time will be updated. Small, but interesting and quite notable changes. The Saxonia line represents the “entry” level of the high-end watch manufacture from Saxony, Germany. Two of the models, the Saxonia and the Saxonia Dual Time, will be reduced in size. Yes, you read that correct! Every time that a watch brand decides to reduce size instead of increasing, we here at Monochrome applaud that kind of bravery. That’s just one of the reasons why we’re so taken by the 38.5 mm measuring Lange 1 that has remained unchanged in size for the last 20 years, and has not been subject to the big, bigger, biggest hype that went on in the watch industry in that past decade.A. Buying Guide - Six recently released unbelievably complex high-end watches
We all know the watchmaking industry is spread far and wide, and you can find pretty much whatever you can think of. And on the top end of the spectrum is where you will find some of the most complex pieces imaginable. Watches that tell you the sunrise and sunset times for instance, or that break down the hour display to morph it into the next hour digit, or that make an instant jump every minute of the hour. Watches that get us all excited, and a true spectacle to behold. And with that in mind, we’ve compiled a Buying Guide with six recently released ultra-complex high-end watches that do things very differently! No more mainstream here, but rare and tantalizing handcrafted pieces with a hefty price tag.?A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk 2022Personally, the A. Lange & Sohne Zeitwerk is one of my all-time favourite watches for its unusual yet captivating digital display and incredible mechanical movement. For 2022 the Zeitwerk received several big updates, like the double-length
IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Edition 150 Years - SIHH 2018 Hands-On Review (Specs & Price)
With IWC introducing so many limited-edition references for its 150th anniversary this year (there are 27 in total), it's been hard work picking a favourite. The blue dial Portugieser Chronograph is certainly high on the list, as of course is the Tribute to Pallweber. If I had to choose just one, however, I think it would have to be the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar Edition 150 Years (IW503405). Striking design, practical complexity and a dial I could stare at for hours, it really does offer a lot of watch for the money. As you have already read countless times by now, IWC is celebrating its 150th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the company has created a limited edition Jubilee collection comprised of more than two dozen references with special white or blue lacquered dials. The finish on the dials is achieved by adding up to 12 coats of transparent lacquer, firing in an oven and then manual flat polishing to create an enamel-like effect. Hands-On With The New, Redesigned Bulgari Octo Roma Automatic
Rome, la citt¨¤ eterna, exerts a strong gravitational pull on all Bulgari‘s products. The iconic Octo family, which takes its octagonal geometry from Ancient Roman architectural motifs, has many branches, including the invincible legion of ultra-thin record-breaking Octo Finissimo models. The Octo Roma, introduced by Bulgari in 2017, upholds its proud octagonal heritage but exhibits softer lines and displays only 58 facets compared to the dramatic razor-sharp edges produced by the 110 facets of its Finissimo brothers. For 2023, Bulgari refreshes its Octo Roma Automatic Time-and-Date model with a host of updates and a new Clous de Paris dial, a nod to the Swiss blood (movement) animating the collection. The beguiling juxtaposition of an octagon surmounted by a circle that characterises the Octo family was inspired by the octagonal coffering found on the vaults of the 310 AD Basilica of Maxentius in the Roman Forum.?The more rounded, softer lines of the Octo Roma reflect a distinctiv
Omega and METAS - The start of a new Era - Visiting the Omega Manufacture & the METAS certification (Part 1) - Monochrome Watches
Omega revolutionized the watch industry in 1892 by industrializing the production of the components of a pocket watch, enabling faster delivery and larger volumes. Omega has won precision awards and were the primary supplier of time measurement devices for the Olympics. During the past ten years Omega managed to mass produce a reliable co-axial movement that requires considerably less servicing. In 2013 Omega announced a watch that houses the first ever fully antimagnetic movement. This innovation cannot be understated! Now, Omega reaches a new step, by announcing a partnership with METAS, an independent governmental agency, in order to develop an in-house and unique, in-depth certification. Explanations about the METAS tests, visit of the?manufacture and of the METAS facilities, challenges and issues, explained by Nick Hayek… All of this will be?detailed?here.Magnetic fields are one of the biggest challenges facing the mechanical watches we admire and love.
