The Collector's Series - Frank's classical side with the iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute to 1931 - Monochrome Watches
The Collector’s Series has already hosted?our dear Editor-in-Chief Frank in the past. However?until now, you probably had in mind that this Dutch guy?mainly has a?passion for independent watchmakers and superb but bold designs, knowing he owns?a?Sarpaneva Korona K1 and a?Hautlence HL Ti 01. Two watches that are not?from a?classical and old manufacture and that are not the type of timepieces?that can be called classic.?Besides talking about watches in his?job, Frank is also a total-crazy-nerd about horology?(well, he’s also a father, a husband and a hard worker…) and as every good collector, his collection is versatile. Thus, Frank?also has a more traditional, classical side. Don’t be surprised cause clearly, the watch he owns?can easily bear the “icon” title. Here is the story of Frank and his understated, dressy and so desirable?Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute to 1931.Frank, what is it about JLC that stole your heart? Ad - Scroll to cont
Porsche 992 and Porsche Design 911 Chronograph Timeless Machine (Specs & Price)
Porsche and Porsche-Design invited me for their Winter Event in Zell am See, Austria. Although it was immediately after the SIHH,?from 18-20 January, I?couldn’t resist when I saw the programme! Zell am See is the historical birthplace of Porsche and its design studio is still located in this beautiful Austrian village, in the middle of the Alps. Zell am See gave stage to the revived Ice Race and the new Porsche Design 911 Timeless Machine, which we covered recently, was there for me to review. But also another mechanical machine that is also dubbed ‘Timeless Machine’ awaited me and here’s my report on the Porsche Winter Event, the new Porsche Design 911 Timeless Machine Limited Edition and driving the brand new Porsche 992.?When I started MONOCHROME it was all about sharing the passion for mechanics on the wrist. That hasn’t changed over the past 12+ years, however, since I’ve attended quite a few sports car events, I must admit that my passion for s
Introducing: The Ultra-Cool Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Ice-Blue Now in 35mm
It’s no secret we’re fans of the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 (and its chronograph brother for that matter) as it is genuinely one of the best value-for-money watches in recent years. It looks cool, comes in many appealing variations, and since recently been available in a long-awaited smaller case size of 35mm. What started as a set of four new references in the new diameter, with black, blue, green or white mother-of-pearl dials, is now expanded with a fifth new reference. To complete the set, Tissot now adds the sub-zero cool ice-blue variant to its collection. With the launch of the new 35mm size, Tissot listened to the demands of the public for a smaller mechanical variation of the PRX. arguably, the 40mm size was already very, very good and proved extremely popular, there were plenty of people who simply felt it was too big. We’ve gone over the differences in size and proportions before, so we won’t bore you with it again and go straight into detail, as this ne
Introducing: Oechslins newest Ochs und Junior Luna Sole
Ludwig Oechslin's ochs und Junior original designs offer unique solutions to traditional complications. The ochs und Junior luna sole, a recent addition to the collection, is a testament to the brand's commitment to a minimalist style and the simplification of astronomical indications. This new watch elegantly combines timekeeping with date, sun, moon phase, and the moon’s position in relation to the earth and sun, offering an intriguing experience. The luna sole belongs to the ochs line collection, so it is non-customisable and is presented with two dial options – sand-blasted anthracite or white rhodium with subtle rose gold accents. Designed by Ludwig Oechslin, the 40mm round case maintains a familiar shape with its short lugs, crafted from grade 5 titanium, left untouched after milling and machining. It features a two-part construction, a screw-down crown, and boasts 100m water resistance. Remarkably slim at just 9mm, including the sapphire crystal, the watch is exceptio
Hands-On Vacheron Metiers dArt Tribute to great civilisations with Le Louvre
Watchmaking is at the crossroads of art and science. Just like Da Vinci's works. This might be enough to make the partnership between Vacheron Constantin and Le Louvre a natural fit. Specifically for a brand that has always demonstrated a commitment to perpetuate and encourage the metiers d'art traditional (and often rare) skills and a deep-felt attachment to culture. When the brand announced its partnership with Le Louvre in 2019, many immediately wondered whether this could lead to the creation of watches inspired by the museum's masterpieces. In 2020, the Bid for the Louvre charity offered the opportunity for a buyer to customize a unique piece featuring one of the museum collection's artworks on its dial Today, Vacheron Constantin takes the covers off a quartet of limited edition watches paying tribute to the great civilizations of Antiquity, inspired by Masterpieces conserved in Le Louvre. The Vacheron Constantin Metiers d'Art Tribute to Great Civilisations collection?is a quartet
