Minimatik is perfectly formed and highly precise¡ªand due to the NOMOS caliber DUW 3001, it is as slender as any hand-wound watch. Its fine details in cyan blue add a dash of avant-garde and combine with the white silver-plated dial beautifully. What's more is that the innovation within is also highlighted¡ªthe automatic caliber of the future. The reserve of this watch is made to last for 43 hours easily. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Black Panther Flying Tourbillon Review
The turn of the new century has heralded a new era for popular culture: we are living in Hollywood's comic-book age. Superheroes are getting increasingly popular as their movies are seen by billions. Inspired by historical character watches, including some of Gerald Genta’s timepieces from the 1980s, Audemars Piguet announced a few weeks ago their partnership with Marvel Entertainment and its intention to pay tribute to their inspirational superheroes and powerful universe. The brand now unveils the first watch born from this partnership. Meet the Royal Oak Concept Black Panther Flying Tourbillon. When Audemars Piguet announced their collaboration with Marvel, many wondered what would the platform to stage Stan Lee’s popular comic characters and universe. A new collection? Code 11.59? The Royal Oak Offshore? Audemars Piguet elected the Royal Oak Concept, which has always been, since its presentation in 2002, the brand's lab for experimentation And it has been significantly r
Hands-On Patek Philippe Calatrava Weekly Calendar 5212A (Specs & Price)
Like a good thriller, the Calatrava Weekly Calendar 5212A is packed with subtle clues that offer us a glimpse into the strategies of its maker. More complex than the elite and minimalist line-up of Calatrava watches, the Weekly Calendar also departs from its family heritage of precious metal cases and flaunts a stainless steel case. Currently the only Calatrava watch in steel, the 5212A gets some of its design elements from a 1955 ancestor, it comes with a sector dial, a winning touch of “handwritten” font on the dial, and a new movement. Although it is the first model to offer this unusual combination of calendar functions, the Weekly Calendar transmits the reassuring feeling that it has always been a member of the Patek dynasty.Useful complicationsPatek's expertise in calendar watches – and combinations of sophisticated calendars with other complications – is legendary. Taking a different tack from the classic aperture/sub-dial layout of its classic calendar w
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Automatic Tadao Ando Black Ceramic hands-on
Time has many faces. Acclaimed Japanese architect Tadao Ando envisions time as a spiral that winds in a continuous and gradually widening curve around a central point. In his first collaboration with Bvlgari in 2019, Ando represented the inexorable passing of time with a mesmerising spiral engraved on the dial of the Octo Finissimo Automatic emanating from the off-centred seconds hand. In line with the dial’s stark minimalism, there were no hour markers, numerals or logos on the first Octo Finissimo collaboration piece.? Bearing the same technical specifications and case design of the record-breaking Octo Finissimo Automatic, this year, Ando has created a dial inspired by Mikazuki, the Japanese term for a crescent moon, or the moon on the third day of the lunar month'.Tadao AndoJapanese architect Tadao Ando (Osaka, 1941) is revered as a national treasure in Japan. Renowned for his minimalist concrete structures, Ando infuses his architecture with Japanese cultural and religious i
Tudor Heritage Black Bay Steel 79730 - Review (Specs & Price)
At Baselworld this year, Tudor introduced a new version of the Black Bay, dubbed Steel – or more precisely, the reference 79730. Immediately during the official presentation, I wondered to myself about the real purpose of this watch, which admittedly is a Tudor Black Bay. No question about it, this new version perfectly blends into the rest of the collection. The real question was more about knowing if it was just another Black Bay or if it could make a difference? Let's find out.In order to make things clear, I am the owner of a Tudor Black Bay Midnight Blue (before being the Managing Editor of MONOCHROME, I was already a watch lover and a watch collector). I love everything about this watch, and I know it by heart. I know the reason why it has been created, I know the guy who designed it, I know all the specs and the details, I know where it comes from, I know its evolution over the years There's not much about the Black Bay that remains unknown to me. I ordered the Blue editio
Mido Multifort Escape with Automatic Movement - Value Proposition Review (Specs & Price)
Founded in 1918, Mido is a company of the Swatch group based in Le Locle. For whatever reason, the brand is sometimes a bit underrated but it does deserve a closer look. Mido watches are well made and offer superb value. The Multifort was originally presented in 1934 and was among the first antimagnetic watches with a self-winding movement. A commercial success for the brand, it is one of its oldest collections. Today, we look at its descendant, the Mido Multifort Escape.Presented at Baselworld this year, the Multifort Escape is the latest addition to the line. It is a stylish, slightly vintage-inspired, rugged watch designed for outdoor use. Its case is a well-proportioned, classic design with a large conical fluted crown. It is presented in stainless steel with an aged and sandblasted PVD treatment creating an interesting patina. The thin, sloped bezel frames a sapphire glass that is slightly domed and comes with double-sided anti-reflective coating. At 44mm in diameter, it wears its
