Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 34mm Ceramic Carolina Bucci
A 50th anniversary is a big deal, and Audemars Piguet is making hay while the sun shines. We've seen plenty of birthday treats this year, including the much-anticipated anniversary Jumbo, but nothing quite like this mesmerising full-black ceramic Royal Oak made with Italian jewellery designer Carolina Bucci. Marking her third collaboration with AP, Bucci is renowned by AP fans for her glistening Frosted Gold cases. For this latest project, Bucci puts away her hammer and dreams up a fascinating transformation of the iconic guilloche tapisserie design that Gerald Genta used on the maiden voyage of the Royal Oak in 1972. The unexpected and entirely on-trend face of the Royal Oak beguiles with an ever-changing iridescent rainbow dial that will be as hard to pin down as the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. ?From frosted gold to rainbowsSince its debut in 1972, the Royal Oak became the precursor and has since commanded the market for luxury sports watches. Zenith El-Primero Pilot/Diver 3019PHC - Monochrome Watches
The watch we will show you today launches a new section here at Monochrome. A section exclusively focused on vintage watches. Why exclusively, and why vintage, you might wonder? Vintage watches are the watches of days gone by since they were manufactured in an era when mechanical was the only way to go. These timepieces were designed and manufactured mainly to fulfill their specific functions. They were luxury items; they were symbols of status; but mainly and most importantly the vast majority of them were created to serve a certain purpose, in a world in need of accurate time-keeping instruments. The submariner was actually used by divers, recreational and professional alike. The Omega Speedmaster helped the astronauts of Apollo XIII to return back home. The IWC Mk XI was used by the British and Commonwealth Navigators to find their way through dead reckoning navigation. The Breitling Navitimer was actually employed by civilian pilots to calculate basic parameters of their flight,
Timex Marlin Automatic, An Affordable Dress/Casual Timex with Vintage Touch (Specs & price)
You probably don't think of Timex as a luxury watch company.? It’s among the most recognizable watch brands in history with a reputation for both affordability and reliability, and it never needed a four-figure timepiece to get there. Timex is also known as being a king of quartz, abandoning mechanical movements over a quarter century ago in 1982. It finally bucked that trend last year with the hand-wound Timex Marlin reissue that faithfully replicated a piece from the 1960's, right down to the (small) 34mm case and retro styling. It's an interesting watch and generated a lot of excitement, but the old-school size and Chinese movement were turnoffs for some. The new Marlin Automatics are a different beast altogether with contemporary 40mm cases and proven Japanese Miyota movements. It's a clean, refined series that helps reinforce the fact that a small fortune isn't required to wear a classy dress watch. Let's take a closer look at the new Timex Marlin Automatics.BACKGROUND/HISTO
